In EL Nino cold Peruvian current gets replaced by warm current ie a warmer east Pacific,bringing higher rains in western south America and lower monsoon here.In el Nino modoki normal conditions prevail ie cold Peruvian current still exists but central Pacific ocean gets warmer and its eastern and western edges cooler.Now since a high pressure area is created in western Pacific/Australia It helps Indian monsoon.
IOD is basically higher temperature/cloudiness/more precipitation in western ind ocean as compared to eastern part.So a positive IOD helps Indian monsoon!
