since vision ca has become new lakshmikanth now a days, but please tell me is it must to read them even if one is following newspapers sincerely since aug 2015? does one has to read them along with newspapers?
@wisdom_tooth it depends! if you have been very religious with newspapers and have been preparing short notes regularly then it shouldnt be a problem! but current affairs is such an ocean its better to refer multiple sources and vision is one of the best ! it wont do any harm if you can glance through it and check whether you are missing something

The need for Current Affairs is different for both Prelims & Mains.
For Prelims, you need to prepare facts and small sized articles. You do not need to prepare Issues.
If you have been doing newspaper, there would be two things
1) You have made your own notes 2) You have not made your own notes.
In case of (1), you can rest assured that you would have covered almost all topics in your notes. You may give Vision IAS a skip, but you can take a glance ( and not rattofy) magazines like even Chronicle.
The CA prelims questions are quite basic and straightforward. They are difficult to miss. If you have done questions of at least 2 Test Series , it will almost be covered everywhere. I have seen Snowflake corals covered in ForumIAS Test Series and even Civils Daily. Its everywhere ( and you can expect a question ) .
So you do not really have to worry. But yes, apart from own notes, you may need to refer to some magazine / compilation where you will only be reading those things which you dont know or are not covered in your newspaper notes.
In case of (2) , by all means refer to some magazine. I would even recommend Vajiram's CA which is good for Prelims ( but not for Mains )
If you have just read the newspaper and not made notes, yes you will have to refer to something. Whether its Vajiram or Vision, its your choice. But don't at all fear that you will screw up CA questions in Prelims even after doing from these sources. You won't. You will do well.
Lastly
Current Affairs has less than 20% weight-age in Prelims . But in preparation, people end up giving it more than 50% of the time. Don;t do that. You should not take more than 3 days ( even if you are a slow reader ) to finish one month's magazine.
Geography + Environment, for example has 35%-40% weightage , and History has at least 10% ( averaging out over three years, not an exact figure but based on experience ) - which has very high solvability - should also be prepared well.
Do not ignore these two segments.
Do not jeopardise your preparation by putting in more than 20-30% time in Current Affairs.

@Neyawn sir how to tackle current affairs for mains..if one is not reading newspapers at all..is visionias sufficient for mains too?
I made my own notes from the newspaper, which I would say hugely benefits you. But you may miss a few things which may not have been highlighted that well.
If you are in Delhi, take Chokkalingam's classes or his notes for Mains - he will do it much better than that as he covered it from 4 newspapers and you wont miss anything. He streches classes for 3 hours, but you will be assured that you will cover 4 newspapers in those 3 hours. If you are the inefficient kinds, you may take 3 hours to do only one newspaper.
Vision is also good, and you can safely rely on it. Most people do and get good ranks. Mostly you need to worry about such questions once you have covered them and still feel inadequate :-)
In the end, you have to make sure that you have covered all topics. Where you do it from is inconsequential , as long as you have 5-6 things to write about on every topic.
I will persuade him to write an article on How he wrote answers - since a high score in first attempt usually means good ( by which I mean what the UPSC requires ) answer writing skills on a limited knowledge base. This is exactly what one should aim for.

If you remember this dude :-) who used to read my articles, he has scored 410+ in GS with under 50 rank this year in first attempt.
