There are 30 people selected from Karnataka and only 2-3 made it in first attempt remaining all in their 3rd or 4th or 7th attempt.
Check the marks cards of 10th,12th std of selected candidates u will be surprised..most of them were hardworkers from the beginning.success in civil services is sum of what we did in last 20 years of our life not what we did after joining coaching.
And i have seen many people who say i had written well in exam but i didn't got good marks this precisely reminds me of some of my schoolmates who after writing board exams used to say i will get 85% i have done really well n when the results came they had barely got 60.
And there are somepeople who were never serious during their entire academics n not even participated in any of the co currricular activities after joining an IT firm n while working there for sometime suddenly realise that they want to be bureaucrats and start preparing for exam n in the end fail. Here there are exceptions too there are well deserving candidates who are in jobs they squeeze out time from their busy schedule and ace the exam n all this doesn't happen in year or so.
Go through the thread named [PRELIMS 2015 GS 1] u will see many saying "this paper was easiest in the history of upsc" and yes u will find the same candidates in "prelims result failure thread"
ATB.....
Dude you have taken it in a wrong way....plz read it again.....i know ,not only in civil services but in every aspect of life hard-work is the only key to success....but in civil services even after putting same amount of hard work one get selected and other not ........is due to strategy(or smart-work) .....so my only concern is to discuss this change.....n you have to accept that this year most of the selected candidates are already serving as irs and ips ,which was not the trend in last few years.....
I know one thing..more than being intelligent, it needs hard work with some luck to get through...After seeing people who have cleared whom I know..It was all about hard work and some luck..their background from avg to good...

Bro for this download the vision ias test series booklet of toppers and check their way of answering.
Majority of the candidates selected this year are already in services(ips, irs) and many other in their first attempt .. Especially, 21 to 23 age group ....but we which form majority of rajendra nagar and mukerjee nagar junta in their 2nd ,3rd attempt or 4th attempt...collecting notes of evey coaching institute...giving free tests.....reading economic survey and year book..doing writing practice.....giving all the exams from Bank to ssc(not by choice but due to family pressure or for a backup plan)...are not adapted to the current changes....or we missing on strategy.
Yes this is a reality that same people are being selected again and again....some newspaper reported that 13 out 23 irts officers have improved their ranks. I would like to point out that indeed they got the opportunity to crack cse in first or second attempt so they r deserving no doubt but the thing is when they appear for service improvement they are in better position from the unemployed junta bcoz they are in service ,they hav recievd training ,they become more confident of their personalities and about their strategies and most significantly they hav nothing to lose....and are secured. They definitly hav that upper edge over the others in subsequent attempts. This increases competition. So what happens is these in service guys will acqire most of the services every year....thn the most deserving and hard working ones will enter cylce in 1st or 2nd attempts who will subsequently get AIS in 3 or 4 th attempt.....so u can imagine where there is space for others....most of the junta keep on struggling and exhaust their attempts still being clueless of their weaknesses. Competition is tough as one will not only encounter freshers but also these in service guys who have all possible adv of cracking this exam. So study very very hard to make a place in final list...once u enter the cycle u can easily b part of AIS otherwise one wrong move will keep u out in all attempts....and repeaters will keep improving their ranks. .. Sorry if it offended anyone.... My post is debatable.....every one has his viewpoints....this is my view point ....it may b wrong
