the ultimate crux..newbies plz dont get urself butchered by these puri's coaching,,gs classes of vajiram etc..
just buy their material and study..if u r an iitian or bitsian and have saved huge money from ur job then its your choice
  • I can vouch for M.Puri Sir's classes. It is awesome. Rest, not so much. I took his GS 2 classes and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. You get a bird's eye view of Indian Polity and Constitution.

Same here. Nuances of Indian constitution, case by case explanation, opinion. I found his classes awesome. Worth investment.

All those who give gyan about not joining any coaching, genuinely answer how many people succeed without coaching? Ira bashed coaching, gaurav did too. But at some point they all had taken guidance. One time guidance is must. I attended m. Puri classes and realized how much it helps when an experienced person teaches. Everyone studies same notes. Right but your idea and understanding will change. Don't believe ? Check vajiram notice board after results. People attend classes, get helped and then start teaching family finance and how easy it is from self study. Self study is solution. Coaching and classes are the things which will streamline prep.

Pros: you will ultimately take less time to finish syllabus if you are a newbie. Syllabus is a Sea. You will read vague things at home.

Guidance and may be access to queries.

Nuances of understanding if faculty is good.

Environment of competition which you are never gonna realize easily otherwise.

You will be able to follow a schedule and prepare in time bound manner.

Cons: money- see your financial prospects. I know many people who sold land and prepared. Not asking anyone to do so anyway :)

Time for self prep will be less- take afternoon classes. It's the most lazy hours. Don't eat just before class and you will never waste your afternoon.

It's up to you whether you take module wise or full coaching. Full coaching at vaji or sriram is most preferred. Module wise : economics, geography you can rely better on mrunal. Polity I will suggest m Puri. Though he is biased a bit against present govt so better to keep it mind to avoid having negative opinion in answers. Ethics I guess there is no one perfect. Listen to audios of ethics from shashidthakur blog. Buy coaching notes for supplementing whenever required.

Friends you are free to ignore this comment. I said what I felt after my experience. Baki koi gaon me rah ke ias ban jata h aur koi delhi me 10 saal se baitha h. Nothing more powerful than your own mettle. But I believe coaching very much helps in first time preparation. I will myself join psychology optional classes by pathak sir in July.

    +1

    Very fair and genuine advice.

I can see a lot of misguidance here where people have been saying Don't Join Vajiram and save your money. If you are already coming to ORN and have no experience of UPSC at all and have the money, and have pre decided on Vajiram, go ahead and join it, take classes , make good notes and leave Delhi within a year.

They teach basics well and if you take down notes and use them, you will benefit from it. You will also be able to have a good coverage of all the topics. Not taking any classes does have one disadvantage that you have some weak areas that remain . Its quite possible to have large number of weak areas and gaping holes in your prep and still clear the Mains, if nothing is asked from that area.

If you do not have as much money to spend and have come to ORN, and are a complete fresher, you have enough guidance on Forum and Insights - and you can either move out of ORN and follow distance Test Series like Vision or GS Score and make do.

But if you are in ORN, take classes - Vajiram is not necessary, you can do modular classes - Neetu Singh for Geog, Chokkalingam for Current Affairs, Puri for GS Paper 2 - they are not magicians, but will make you write notes endlessly - which will make your job easier. Make good use of your time.

And if you are not in Delhi, DO NOT COME to Delhi for classes. Do Test Series for Prelims and Mains and try to work upon it. That will be the best way to proceed.
  • thank u for ur advice

+1 ...coaching is not a necessarily bad thing..A good teacher can give you something in 2 hours which u can't realize in 2 yrs by yourself.. this guy hv beautifully summarized the pro n cons of coaching.. and i agree with most of it.. ku6 chije esi hoti h jo aap khud kbhi nhi sikh skte jb tk ek a6a margdarshak guru na mil jaye..or m khusi or experience k sath khta hu ki Vaji m kyi ese guru h .. :)

Ps- (BIASED OPINION.. I AM AN EX Vajiite :) )

Rest Neyawan sir hv concluded supremely :)
