I've been hearing numbers ranging from 850 to over 900. Anybody have an idea through any 'source'?

840 is the cut-off this year as per sources of @ashutosh. its much less than usual given that many people with no prep of mains got through prelims due to high score in CSAT.

cutoff used to be around 900 every year....doesnt change...it can go less this time...but will not be 840...not for general category....840 is very less...even if people are not so well prepared for mains this time..still scoring 840 is not tough...cut off will be around 880-890 range..

@Neyawn..The cutoff is being made exactly 846. There is no doubt about it whether anyone believe it or not..It has been verified by independent sources by some upsc person and vajiram is also saying...So thats y many people are saying this ...

@ashutosh...hmm...yaar surce kya hai..some person u directly know...or is it some person whom ur "friend" knows...?

@ashutosh - Sounds very likely that the cu-off may go as low as 846 this time. will agree with @ASingh too that its "incredible" at first. Anyway we shall never know until the results are out. @ASingh how was your interview man?

and more importantly, @asg what do YOU think the cut-off will be like?

cut off will be around 900 only. every year cut-off discussion happens that it will be low...but more or less every year cut-off is same.

846 sounds too low. I agree with @ASingh that it will be around 880.
Also, I wonder how the distribution is, as in, is it evenly distributed between cutoff-&-highest, or is it more bottom heavy. In case it's the latter, interviews become more important.
I notice last year there was a difference of ~240 marks between the Mains cutoff and the final cutoff. This means that it is very difficult to get on the final list if you have just cleared the Mains.

which is why it is "incredible"..lol
even i would agree with @ASingh that it cud be around 880..esp since @ashutosh is not willing to reveal his sources!
