question is a little vague, if you try to dig deeper into the conditions. it is mission 1-2 conditions and this is exactly which makes it at par with upsc csat. they have vague options too.. :D

but macha if you look at qstn 1 and then solve by options it has to be - option d. once you have taken one group as CHD then the only options for other two group remains is that I appears on third panel and B on second(as B has to be paired with either D/G or both). then we are left with the following group combinations

    1 - CHD
    2 - GBA
    3 - EFI

if you don't look at question one as a condition then there are many other group alternatives as well. always solve via options in questions like these. :)

After seeing you solve this question using pen and paper, i also started solving it - ki aisa kya csat ka question set kar diya forum walon ne ki half page solutions are required.

But this question is a typical UPSC question. It has to be solved by elminiation.

    Question is

Nine professors – A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and I are to appear on a series of three panels. Each panel will consist of three professors and each professor will appear exactly once. The panel must be arranged according to the following conditions.
    I. C and H must be on the same panel.
II. E and F must be on the same panel.
III. I and D cannot be on the same panel.
IV. G must appear on the second panel.
    V. Either D or G or both must appear on the panel with B.

    Question 1

Which of the following professors could appear on a panel together?

    (A) A, F, I

    (B) A, D, G

    (C) E, C, G

    (D) H, C, D

This questions can be solved only by elimination method. If you tried solving it through any other method, it would be a huge wastage of time.

In (A) AFI are there , but E and F must be on the same panel. - so wrong

In B ADG are there, but Either D or G or both must appear on the panel with B. - so wrong

In C , ECG are there but E and F must be on the same panel. -so wrong

In D , HCD are there - and C & H must be together ( rule 1) , so this is correct option.

Very good questions, @forumias keep it up!

Guys, please tag me in csat questions. have too much vella time in office to kill and csat is my saving grace :)
