Some doubts regrading earthquakes

1).Are faults related only to tectonic plates.I mean what if there is a big crack inside a mountain(standing in middle of a tectonic plate) and because of that one part moved downward relative to other. Will we call it a normal fault?
2).It is written that most earthquakes are caused by tectonic activity that is when rocks move along a fault.I am clear with the point that when two plates move(which will move along a fault) than there is a earthquake but What if there is a crack(crack which we can call fault if answer of my first question is false) along a very big mountain, and one side along that crack slips down and causes earthquake. Will we consider this as tectonic earthquake.
3)Difference between plate tectonic and elastic rebound theory
