One of my friends was informing me that since I belong to reserved category, UPSC shall always give me less marks than a general candidate although we may have performed equally well at the personality test. Is this true? I saw the marks of selected candidates in CSE 2014 and could actually feel that marks of Unreserved candidates are generally higher than reserved ones at interview round.
Why do u get reservation? on the basis of socio-educational backwardness,right?so if u feel u deserve reservation,dont u feel that backwardness might reflect in ur personality ? may be that genuine socio economic backwardness on basis of which people get reservation also shows in their personality leading to low marks...where is the issue then? the point is that one cannot say that i m socially-edcationally backward but have a good forwwrd looking personality because education is a major component of good personality in rational world....unreserved candidates in general get more marks in written also,why dont u claim bias there? m sure many guys from reserved category also get good marks in interview.

It's like self fulfilling prophecy working on both sides. All the reserved category candidates are interviewed together at the end so board can get biased by expecting below average performance due to backwardness. Also from candidates point of view, they face the interview by expecting lower marks, so they perform accordingly. The take away is go with an open mind to the interview and perform naturally. Don't let any assumptions deteriorate your performance.
I don't think that this is the case. I personally know a guy from obc who got 215/300 (cse 2008) in interview, which probably was one of highest that year.

SC, ST candidates score lower compared to OBC and general. Obc can't be that backward when they consist of more than 40% of population.
