I have a fairly good knowledge of modern india, still m feeling hard to understand sumit sarkar. Please help. M i the only one ??

Some of the chapters are recomended but still those chapters are hard to comprehend. I mean i barely undertand the book m like, i finished 1st cahpter in 15 mins, reading n nothing going into head

that is a tough book man. mainly for history optional guys.
i tried to read few pages, could not comprehend what author was trying to convey. sab sir k upar se ja raha tha. didn't buy the book.
read bandopadhyay's plassey to partition and beyond. it is a very good book for modern india. gives clear picture of the events and their effects.

i guess that's where you might've gone wrong.. don't mind.. when something goes over our head we should read it in small bytes.. meaning you read say 2 pages .. assimilate it... then take a break or read something else.. then comeback to it after a while.. whatever we've read we need to 'chew' it.. then it becomes comprehensible and interesting.. the only disadvantage is that this process is time taking as well as taxing..
I found the book wonderful, better than Bipan Chandra's India struggles for its Independence.
I would suggest completing Bipan Chandra first then moving to it. It cannot be understood in first go. However UPSC prefers it as many direct question in past has come from it. Moreover Bipan Chandra's book is biased heavily towards Gandhiji and does not give other perspective.
If you cannot read whole book - skip social part,read growth of communal tendencies (best explanation of the phenomenon IMHO)
