I had to write a story in 1500-2000 words. I was given a paragraph which I had to use anywhere in the story.
The given paragraph was :
In the middle of the flight, Kiara woke up to go to the washroom. When she returned, she was too lazy to push her way into the middle seat. And with Rishan readily offering to shift seats, the seating arrangement changed. With 20 minutes still remaining for the flight to land, a sleep starved Kiara took another power nap, this time holding Rishan's right hand more firmly. Rishan's other hand, though, nervously moved to touch Diya's. Her heart skipped a beat. Diya pulled her hand away. But a defiant Rishan held her wrist again, this time firmly and more reassuringly. The changing behavioral dynamics between the three perhaps gave out a foreboding of what was to come in Goa.When the flight landed at the Dabolim Airport, Rishan felt uncanny...his excitement seemed replaced by an unknown fear that he found very difficult to decipher.

It was his first day in college. Like always, Rishan was already late, too late, missed first two classes. Climbing up the stairs to attend the third! Nervous, tensed, heartbeats fast! And suddenly he sees her –Diya-climbing downstairs. Heartbeats stop. He is looking at her, she isn't. He is awestruck, she isn't. His heart melts away, not her. He feels like she is his own, she remains indifferent. He wants her, she doesn't. Is this what we call love at first sight? These few seconds are going to have a strong impact on his life, whole life. Yes, someone rightly said life changes in a moment, his life changed. How? His soul, his consciousness, his thoughts, his actions are no more independent. They have got attached to her - the girl he never saw before, the girl he might never see again, and most importantly, the girl who might already have someone special in her life.
Rishan kept looking for that girl for a year, but he could not have even a glance of her. He is lost in her thoughts, keeps smiling on visualising her innocent face .This continues for a year, but he is so besotted by that mysterious lady-Diya- that he is hopeful that he would see her again.
Now, third semester has started, students have been reshuffled according to their streams-computers, electronics, mechanical, civil and so on. Rishan enters the classroom with his friend. He still has a faint hope, rather a crazy wish that she be in the same stream and hence the same classroom as he is. Ravi, his friend sitting beside him, has to go to the washroom. He asks Rishan to take care of his seat so that it does not get occupied by others in his absence. Rishan agrees. After a few minutes, Rishan hears a sweet voice asking him whether the seat is vacant. Rishan , busy looking at the trees through the window, nods in negative, and then looks towards the source of the voice. It was hers –Divya’s. Wishes do come true. Rishan is shocked, surprised, excited, but suddenly becomes disappointed as he had missed his great, probably life-changing, moment of sitting next to her.
It has been three years now, the college life is about to end. Everyone in college knows Rishan loves her. But he could not dare approach her. He keeps looking at her throughout the periods. He makes funny comments in the class to make her laugh, and she does laugh. They exchange eyes, smile, things are pretty clear, but still quite unclear. The need of the hour is to make an approach and tell her all that Rishan has to, for years. But the fear of rejection, that awkward moment, does not let him propose her. In these three years, Rishan could talk to her only twice- once, while wishing her luck during the placements, and the next, when he requested her to get photographed with him during batch photo session.
It is the last day in college now. Rishan, with his friends, is at the canteen. Coincidentally, Diya too comes along with her mates. Both are standing apart by few metres, they look at each other, wish to say something, but unfortunately none could. They spend more than an hour almost together on the last evening of the college, yet very far away from each other. Rishan leaves all to destiny and leaves for his hostel with tears in his eyes. He has double pain to suffer- leaving college and most importantly her, probably forever.
It has been four years now since Rishan last saw her. He has been busy struggling with his career. He is hopeful that once he is all set, he will approach her and propose. For not a single moment he could forget her all these years. He tried to contact her several times on email hoping a reply, but there was none. And one day, he stopped mailing her because he was heartbroken. Heartbroken because she was married now! His dreams shattered, life came to a standstill, he has no desire to live anymore. Life, suddenly, seems to him cruel and he finds himself a hapless victim.
But Rishan is still not able to forget her. Even if he tries hard to do so, she comes in her dreams, and revitalises his emotions for her. He is helpless again. He keeps visiting her Facebook profile, looks at her pictures with her husband. It invokes in his heart an unbearable pain, but at the same time it charges him up to rise in life. He doesn't know why does this happen? It may be because he feels rejected, inferior, worthless, and hence he has a belief that if he rises up in life, he might seek her attention again someday. He resumes sending her unresponsive mails, the last resort to feel associated with her as the only memento he had of her was her email id.
The Greek philosopher Aristotle called God an Unmoved Mover, one who does not move but all other things move towards it out of sheer love. Diya had become Rishan’s Unmoved Mover, his God, as his thoughts and actions are affected by her, without her being affected by him. She is enjoying her life, married life. And Rishan is a failure, a great failure, who had failed in every aspect of life. Had he not chosen the career path he chose, had he left no stone unturned to get his love, he might have been a happy person. But life had other plans for him. He was destined to struggle, sulk, bemoan.
However, life moves on. Diya has now been happily married for 2 years. Here, Rishan has achieved success in his career. He is now engaged, about to marry her beautiful colleague – Kiara. He has fallen in love again. But this love is not like he did in the past. It’s more of a compromise born out of familial and societal pressure to get married and settled in life. He still loves Diya, like an eternal lover. How can he forget her sweet innocent face, her melodious voice, her million dollars’ smile? Kaira is his reality but Diya, his dream. We all run after our dreams, after all.
Rishan, on the eve of New Year, plans to go for a trip to Goa, with his fiancee - Kiara. They have to leave for Goa next week. Rishan is busy making all preparations. He opens his email account to look for a scheduled mail from the resort palace at Goa. But what he sees now shocks him. He has received a reply to one of those hundreds of un-replied mails that he had sent her-Diya- over last 7 years. She is a widow now. Her husband, an air force pilot, lost his life in one of those many accidents that have become a regular affair of our armed forces. She is alone, depressed, desperate to meet her eternal lover - Rishan.
Rishan does not know how to react. He is super excited but baffled not knowing what to do now. But he does not want to hide the truth from her. He tells her about Kaira, but also shows his great interest in meeting her. He tells that he is heading for Goa next week. He, with his shaking fingers, types “would you like to come along with me, Diya?”, and closes his eyes, breathing fast, waiting impatiently for her reply. The reply has come, fingers shaking again, heartbeats fast, hoping to find a “yes’, and ‘yes’ it is.
Rihan, tries to take a glance towards the window and suddenly he is full of tears- the seat number 20 , the seat next to left of Kaira, is Diya- the love of his life. She looks prettier, more mature than how she looked that last evening in college but a bit sad. On seeing Rishan today eight years after that last evening in college, she is not able to hide her emotions and constantly making futile attempts to wipe her tears off. It’s a inexplicable moment for them-hearts melting, eyes flooding, old memories reviving. It seems as if time has stopped for them, they are living years in moments.
Kaira, who had a hectic day today packing luggage, is tired, and relaxes with her eyes closed holding Rishan’s hand - unaware of the epic event going on either side of her seat number 20. In the middle of the flight, Kiara woke up to go to the washroom. When she returned, she was too lazy to push her way into the middle seat. And with Rishan readily offering to shift seats, the seating arrangement changed. That exciting moment of sitting next to Diya has finally arrived for Rishan after 11 years when he had unfortunately missed that golden opportunity while looking through his classroom window that day.
With 20 minutes still remaining for the flight to land, a sleep starved Kiara took another power nap, this time holding Rishan's right hand more firmly. Rishan's other hand, though, nervously moved to touch Diya's. Her heart skipped a beat. Diya pulled her hand away. But a defiant Rishan held her wrist again, this time firmly and more reassuringly, as if he wants to tell her that he would hold it all his life. The changing behavioral dynamics between the three perhaps gave out a foreboding of what was to come in Goa.
When the flight landed at the Dabolim Airport, Rishan felt uncanny...his excitement seemed replaced by an unknown fear that he found very difficult to decipher.
The End to kra do
will write the climax soon for u .
But my own perspective.
The guy is an asshole, diya/divya even bigger asshole.
He has committed to Kiara and is doing injustice to her when he asks Diya to join him. Ideally he should have replied "It's over Biatch"
Diya is just using him now. Why couldn't she have replied to those mails earlier, that she is not interested and ask him to move on. Now she is alone and needy, she comes back.
As usual with most girls, keep the guy on tenterhooks, keep the guy guessing, keep the guy waiting. They always want a back-up. And usually it is the 'nice' guys who end up as the back-ups.
Writer sir, wonderful story, please mere wale comment jaisa hi end karein :-D
