IFoS query - eligibility for next year civils

i have read somewhere that, if you get selected for IFoS and join the training, you are not eligible for next years' civils. is it true?

Currently iam in dilemma whether to skip the optionals for IFoS. Have given english and GK, and iam expecting 250+. The issue is both the optionals are new to me and i havent started my preparation yet. Although i have hand written notes for geology and hope to atleast cover it in a day before exam. but for the other (agri engg), i ll have to rely on internet. i had initially allocated 5 days for IFoS (3 days for exam and 1 day each for optioonal preparation). instead, i could revise my civils optionls in those 4 days.

Also apart from ias/ips/ifs/irs/icls/iaas/its/irts/danics iam not keen on joining other services in civils. not sure on ifos either (im from one of the top 3 iims, drawing 30lpa and presently on sabbatical - fedup with the hectic work environment and only going to increase from hereon).

Requesting honest opinion.

you can give 2016 Mains by seeking exemption from Foundation course , but cannot give 2017 if joined IFS in December 2016 for professional training

I so wish u hadn't ticked the IFoS if u were already sure it isn't a career you will be satisfied with..

There was a case a few months back. A serving IFoS trainee had given CSE and got IAS. But he was not given NOC as the service rules for IFoS bar any further attempts at CSE. Finally Union Environment Minister Javdekar intervened and approved his switch. File RTI to find out whether this entailed a change in service rules or was just a one-off exception.

As Raju says above, you can appear if you postpone training.

P.S: If not interested at all in IFoS at all, the option should have been avoided as it wastes a seat of a genuine aspirant. We are no longer kids whose parents pressure them into engineering/medical despite lack of aptitude.
