The Nuclear Security Summit 2012 is being held in Seoul, South Korea. Indian PM has left for South Korea to attend it . The purpose of the Nuclear Security Summit is to focus the attention of countries with certain nuclear capabilities on the threat of nuclear terrorism. Another point of focus is to devise ways and means to contain non- nuclear states and non-state actors from acquiring nuclear capability.
Can someone help put up the brief history of Nuclear Security Summit 2010 and 2011? It has been pretty interesting on account of US's attempts to contain Iran and prevent it from acquiring nuclear capability, the issue of "swap deal" and the rle of turkey, if someone remembers?

non- nuclear states andnon-state actors from acquiring nuclear capability. There were few notable things about the first summit
One, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu did not attend the summit as he felt that he would be asked upfront by world leaders to sign the NPT
Two, India attended, despite the fear of it being asked to sign the NPT
Three, Iran was not invited for obvious reasons
Four, Talks of a Nuclear Fuel bank that would be non-discriminatory
Five, Ukraine, and later Mexico agreed to covert their fuel to low grade Uranium from High grade (for their nuclear reactors used to generate lectricity). Low grade Nuclear material is unsuitable for nuclear weapons.
Six, It was called after START - II or New START treaty signed between Russia and the US in Prague
Seven, Iran called its own Nuclear Security Summit that year after not being invited to the Washington Summit.
Eight, President Obama got Chinese President Hu Jintao (high profile meeting that year) to agree to help USA put economic sanctions on Iran due to its non-compliance of stopping its Nuclear Program.
Thats all I recall right now. It was a big event.
the deal was called off (probably) because the two parties could not agree to on what territory the swap would happen. Iran feared that USA would take away the enriched uranium from it, and now give back anything in return.
