On choosing sociology optional

Hello,

I'm considering choosing sociology optional, and I'd be grateful if someone would give me some information about it. I have a rough idea of the subject from Wikipedia surfing over the years. I'm interested in the subject and willing to put in the effort. In particular, I was hoping someone could answer the following questions:

Is it more conceptual than factual? Does it involve lots of memorisation? (I have a bad memory.)
Is it scoring? What is the lowest optional score with which people have qualified in the past?
Is it heavy? How long does it take to prepare?
How does it compare in these respects with psychology and PSIR? (I'm also considering choosing them.)

It is neither heavy nor factual ( except to the fact if you add facts in appropriate amount you will fetch good marks indeed )
Its also very easy to grasp infact you won't be feeling that you are studying a hello lot of an optional.
There isno such thing like this option is scoring or not. This is a myth. You cans core in any subject if you have interest in it and you know how to express yourself.

So. Read ncerts of class 11-12 and get the overview of the subject and then thorough the syllabus and then previous year question papers. By then when you'll complete the question paper analysis you'd have already made up your mind for the right choice. All thE best.

Yes it does involve concepts, some of which are very simple and obvious and some a bit complex, but it is very enriching.


Does it involve lots of memorisation? (I have a bad memory.)

I do not think it involved memorisation as much as in other optionals


Is it scoring? What is the lowest optional score with which people have qualified in the past?

It is decent in terms of scoring. You get above average marks easily and it is not as unpredictable in terms of scoring as Pub Ad.


Is it heavy? How long does it take to prepare?

No it is not counted among the heavy optionals. It would take roughly 3 months to prepare it very very well. A good way to begin would be getting Upendra or Vajiram Socio Notes and do a preliminary reading. You can also take up optional classes if you are from Delhi. A test series however would be the only essential thing you would need to assess and prepare better.


How does it compare in these respects with psychology and PSIR? (I'm also considering choosing them.)

Psychology is more theoretical and is not popular these days. Socio is considered usually easier than both Psycho and PSIR. However, the above is merely my opinion and I am not equipped to answer this question.
