On choosing psychology optional

Hello,

I'm considering choosing psychology optional, and I'd be grateful if someone would give me some information about it. While I majored in mechanical engineering at university, I also took some psychology courses. So I have a rough idea of the subject. I'm interested in the subject and willing to put in the effort. In particular, I was hoping someone could answer the following questions:

Is it more conceptual than factual? Does it involve lots of memorisation? (I have a bad memory.)
Is it scoring? What is the lowest optional score with which people have qualified in the past?
Is it heavy? How long does it take to prepare?
How does it compare in these respects with sociology and PSIR? (I'm also considering choosing them.)

Thanks!

  • answers to your query:
    1. conceptual and understanding based, no factual questions asked.
    2. scoring depends on your ability. Takes more than a year to become adept at scoring in psychology. usually is pretty stable with toppers getting between 250-280. this year i think 288 may have been max. Don't expect very high like 300+ as in geography. lowest optional score would depend on your GS marks i suppose unless you meant something else.
    3. nearly a year without any help.
    4. More analytical than sociology and PSIR. definitely more interesting than other two if you read any standard textbook.
