Are our Children Safe?

edited April 2013 in Current Affairs
-50% of our children are sexually abused (oft-repeated cliched stat), sexual crimes against girl child especially are regularly seen in News-media
-In India, there runs a system of missing children, trafficked children which feeds many things lowly - from forced beggary, prostitution, forced bonded labour, domestic servant industry and what not -> those small kids rag-picking, serving at dhabas, begging at cross-roads, are the most vulnerable of the lot

What can we, as a nation/society/govt. do to prevent this?

What i feel is, at present, government , sort of , neglects these highly needy children among plethora of general govt. programmes such as MDM, SSA, ICDS, and others. For me, govt. should earmark special percentage of funds and launch a mission-mode project with setting up govt, Govt-NGO institutions all over the country to rope in these vulnerable children. In other words ICPS should be launched in a mission mode and as a totally central project. Such a step will have great domino-impact on other fields such as extreme poverty, Universalisation of education most of Out of School children are these.

As a society, children must be somehow connected to their saviours and made aware.taught about dangers lurking around. They should be taught to distinguish between normal and predatory behaviour. Especially, in schools complaint cells linked to police/child protection administration should be set up which could detect and report cases of child sexual abuse.

Do you have any solution for these evils in our society - Child Sexual Abuse, Highly Vulnerable Familyless Children? Do you feel/know anything regarding this. Plz pour in your views/knowledge.

PS: if you see any child in distress, dial 1098 which is India's first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance. Whether you are a concerned adult or a child, you can dial 1098, the toll free number to access our services. We not only respond to the emergency needs of children, but also link them to services for their long-term care and rehabilitation."

and Drona asked,"what do you see?","the sparrow's eye!"......and Krishna replied,"Turning their discerning mind to That, directing their whole conscious being to That, making That their whole aim and the sole object of their devotion, they go whence there is no return"
