@Sherlock duniya daari sab moh Maya hai.. We toh are not even a dot.. Hana... And ye forum and u and me and us all... We toh are kuchhh bhi toh nahi.... --- )
My thoughts on idealism and upliftment of entire humanity. Who better to analyze than the champion of Sarvodaya?
The Mahatma believed in the inner goodness of each individual. He believed that evil is alien and unnatural.
But is Gandhism practical?
By killing the assassin of the Mahatma, we declared that his outlook is impractical.
Mahatma Gandhi was so idealistic that he believed that "the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher’s knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs.” He felt that if Jews had done that Nazis would have a change of heart.
Today, the modern Asaram Bapus extend the same Gandhism and declare that Nirbhaya must have told her rapists - "Bhaiya! Main abla hoon. Tum mere bhai ho. Dharam ke bhai ho. Bhagwan ka naam lekar haath pakadti, pair pakadti.. itna durachar nahi hota. Galti ek taraf se nahi hoti." to avoid getting raped. We are unable to digest the same idealism.
I have lost faith in the concept of sarvodaya itself.
In my opinion, instead of focussing on upliftment of entire humanity and society, it is better to do whatever limited good one can do in one's limited capacity. This way I can always be positive and hopeful
You observe things good,as I followed & observed you in so many thread. May if I could bring in your attention that you are comparing Gandhiji and that person vis-a vis idealism. Better see the comment of that person in context of the propagation of Patriarchy then idealism. Moreover I wish that may you come across in future the most practical fell of prec20th century in Indian history and the world.
@trakpif Dear friend, most people especially Jews saw our leader's comment as anti-semitic rather than idealistic. Let us draw a parallel here.
There is anti-semiticism and racism in the world. There is patriarchy in the world. X asks jews to throw themselves before the butcher. Y asks a woman to throw herself before the butcher. Now, people call X an idealist (rather than racist) and Y a patriarch. To me that is unacceptable.
But but, how can our beloved X be racist???
One of the things that really saddened Mr. X was grouping Indians with 'black africans' also called negroes or kaffirs back in the day. Well, guess who made these quotes.
“Under my suggestion, the Town Council must withdraw the Kaffirs from the Location. About this mixing of the Kaffirs with the Indians, I must confess I feel most strongly. I think it is very unfair to the Indian population.”
“The decision to open the school for all Coloured children is unjust to the Indian community, and is a departure from the assurance given… that the school will be reserved for Indian children only.”
“The British rulers take us to be so lowly and ignorant that they assume that, like the Kaffirs who can be pleased with toys and pins, we can also be fobbed off with trinkets.”
“Kaffirs are as a rule uncivilised – the convicts even more so…. The reader can easily imagine the plight of the poor Indian thrown into such company!”
“We were all prepared for hardships, but not quite for this experience. We could understand not being classed with the whites, but to be placed on the same level with the Natives seemed too much to put up with.”
The term “Kaffir” is a pejorative South African term for black people which is equivalent to the ‘n’ word. Use of this term has been a criminal offense in South Africa since 1975.
Do I respect X? Sure. Would some people (not me) argue that X was a racist and a misguided idealist? Sure. Is there a contradiction between the two? Nope. No man, other than Batman, is perfect. And X was no Batman.

All this about Mr.X very much corroborated with last line of my comment (though not fully describe Mr.X ). I would still reiterate that what "that person" was saying can only be understood and explained in terms of "Propagation of Patriarchy " has nothing to do with idealist- realist debate.
