Ethics- how to improve our performance?

edited September 2015 in Ethics
Though cutoff predictions have confused us a lot, this post is for those who struggle with being ethical in previous mains.
Lets discuss how to improve by 20-30 marks.
It may help us gain momentum for studies.

yeah me too...got poor marks in ethics in 60s.......people said to follow your heart in ethics.....and i wrote from my heart....
for eg...in the sexual harassment case....one of the point i mentioned was to put up an inquiry against the women too...

In exam we should write answers from examiners point of view....and definitely they are not bureacrats,..bt leftists....,,,we shouldn't write from bureacratic point of view..
  • I got 82, 76 in two mains.
After discussing with many people I found dat no single rule can be followed.
  • @resilient Still can u tell us what u have done to score 82... scored last tym in 60's
  • In 2013 i got 98 and in 2014 i got 81. According to me I wrote much better in 2014 compared to 2013.Totally confused now how to approach the paper.any consistent performer pls help.
  • i wrote in the same way as toppers did (i mean just like the way they are saying in IVs), still i only got 66.. now i am totally confused plus i am from hindi medium too.
plz help me. can anybody suggest me which book should i read for ethics.
  • @vk1812
Bhai, never thought that someone would or should seek suggestions from me on ethics after being declared somewhat unethical. :D
Anyways, in 2013 it was my first mains n like most newcomers I thought very high of me and attempted 22/25 questions. I thought given my excellent value system I should top that paper and got 82, while most of highly unethical friends got 100+ :ar!
This year I thought dat i have filled d knowledge gap in ethics and done enough writing practice, so 120 was easy for me. Attempted all, liked my answers n got 76.
    :-w

Abd now like the rest of us veterans, mostly extra optimists, I tried to find my way out n get 100+. People gave me completely contrasting views- those who got above 110 said
.) oh dont u worry.dont mention any thinkers. That wud irritate checker. Its so easy to score good marks. Just write ehat u feel like. I felt they think they got gud marks because they r good human beings(Not there fault. Its feels good to be declared ethically awesome than others).

.) second set said- are u mad. Y didnt u mention any thinkers in ur answers. Its an ethics paper. So dey think dey got high marks cause I am some idiot who cant apply in answers whatever he learns. Again, they r superior, hence better marks(not their fault. Feels gud to be...)

So basically my searched ended non conclusive. I never use any thinkers in case studies or answers. Write them very honestly n generally they r idealistic answers.

But after feeling vulnerable in this year prelims, I am yet to get back to studies.

I have decided to go to some guru and devote myself n my future to him. I wud do whatever he says.
    Who is this guru?
    Please suggest.
  • I mean ethics guru...coaching.
    Any suggestions?
  • @resilient you r right i m also in the same dilema as u explained not ..got any concrete guidance to bank upon regarding thinkers same i have gone through as you mentioned....still dnt know whether to mention thinkers or not.
  • seniors plz suggest good source for covering ethics basics first ! I have heard of lexicon and subba rao which one is better ? or suggest some other source :)
  • There is no good source and bad source for ethics. Lexicon book will suffice. The problem that most of the people have with ethics is they try to mug up a lot of terms.

People should have a pragmatic approach and they should observe what is happening in the society. If a case study comes most of the aspirant mention only pros and cons but they should also give the solution for it. The examiner is looking for solutions as we all are aspiring civil servants. If we can provide solutions that is highly unbecoming of a civil servant.

Try to solve more and more case studies as it will hone your analytical bent of mind.

P.s : I had followed these simple strategies and secured 147 marks in the ethics paper.( I was expecting between 100-110)
