Please suggest which one would be better for Geography Test Series? Neetu OR Shabbir
I had joined ALS & Majid earlier. So, dont want to attend their test series again.
(If anyone wants feedback on these 2, I would be happy to help).
This year, I am planning to go for Neetu Singh OR Shabbir.
It would be great if you can give your precious feedback in terms of following criteria:
* Checking: Are papers/answers genuinely checked or just "fool-the-students" game is going on?
* Level of questions (as per UPSC standards)
* Discussions: are they fruitful ?
* Answer Sheets: do they give just a bundle of blank sheets or follow UPSC-like fixed space system.
* Promptness & regularity in giving checked answer copies.
* Number of tests, and course covered per test

Can u plz suggest how are alok ranjan and als...
i m thinking for going to either of the two...
Alok Ranjan's Classroom course is good, I have only negative reviews of its test series. So never considered it.
My experience @ALS,
(-)
* 8 Tests were there; out of these, they corrected only 5; last 3 tests were NEVER returned to students. This was the most disgusting part of ALS test series.
* Checking: was OK in 1st 2-3 tests, but dismal in next 2-3; (last 3, as I told, were not given to us)
* Level of questions was much below UPSC standards; ~30% questions used to be picked up from UPSC previous year papers; next 30-40% were too direct / simple;
* Teacher lacked in-depth knowledge (compared to Majid Hussain).
(+)
* Discussions were fruitful, not in terms of knowledge-gain, but in terms of answer-writing. Stress was laid on bringing multiple dimensions in answer, maps, diagrams. (Bhavya Mittal blog describes it clearly & completely)
* Unlike other misers in the market, they used to give "fixed-space" type copies + printed framework sheet for answers
* Competition (or number of enrolled students) was good.
So, finally, if you have to choose out of ALS & Alok (only), then go for ALS. Otherwise, you can try to broaden your options, & search for the best among them (whichever suits you).
Thanks ahead.!
Majid sir (based on a few test series discussion sessions): vast ocean of knowledge + great style of teaching;
BUT, he is highly unprofessional; rescheduled & cancelled classes too often. Also, not a "dedicated" teacher (not always there for every student).
@Harvey_Dent ..han kr skte hain
@danton :
Checking: I joined his test series after getting attracted by his UPSC-evaluator credentials. But either he FOOLS students (doesn't read answers; just checks if diagrams/maps are there, then above average marks; also to show-off, he circles our overwriting/crisscrosses) OR this is the way UPSC also checks.
Additionally, he charges too much (>2000 per test; probably highest in market); but gives blank sheet copies, & not the "fixed space" copies. Also, you won't be given any printed material / answer framework; only class discussions.
But, must say, his discussion sessions were really enlightening.
Also level of his question papers is great (probably best).
@all senior players ...bhai koi mje bi bata do, which one to join for Test Series : Shabbir or Neetu ?
Nitu singh blindly checks test copies. Her qs are good.But she doesnt follow UPSC pattern in qs setting.You just want to write answers for dynamic qs then you can join but dont expect any feedback from her.
1)Vision:level of qs: not proportional to upsc standards,checking:poor,discussion:good,printed material: excellent..
2)Majid sir: level of Q's: very very good,checking std: he himself checks the paper bt he wants pure bookish answers(esp frm his book!) that curtails innovation, discussion: contrary to the popular view I really did nt like them,he fine tunes ur writing nd presentation part bt the conceptual part is really wanting in his discussions,printed material:NO ,fees:very very high (nd really not worth it)..nd most importantly a pathetic teacher never hs time fr his students..(personal opinion)
Overall cost benefit wise I'll suggest ppl to get Majid sirs qs paper frm somewhere nd vision IAS printed material ..
Also please tell whether he discussed very basic stuff in detail (it would be of no use) OR gave a brief/gist of the syllabus of forthcoming test (it may be helpful in revision).
@bismil ..I also joined Majid few months back. And yes, I also felt that he preferred bookish answers only. But yaar, we don't know if UPSC prefers Innovation or Standard Bookish answers. After all most UPSC evaluators would be like Majid only. 10-20% innovation is OK (rather appreciable & recommended), but more can be disastrous.
2nd thing: please tell if Vision Geography material is available in market/KBC or others (books are insufficient for SOME topics).
