people skipping this year attempt because of pattern change??

edited April 2013 in Miscellaneous
i am thinking of skipping this year's attempt because of lack of preparation and obviously pattern change.so seniors do enlighten me if it is worth taking attempt this year itself for experience or should i prepare for next year.i am final year of my graduation and already done with public administration coaching from vajiram and general studies from rao's weekend classes :P
created this topic to know about people skipping this year's exam and their ideas about how to approach preparation in long term.

  • I ll be precise
    1) There is absolutely no credits for just attempting prelims/mains/interview and not clearing it...
Actually its much more hurtful if you fail at a later stage of the process...
    2) You have mentioned about the courses you took, they don't matter much unless you studied afterwards and made proper notes/writing practice/revision plans...
    3) Since you are in final year you can wait for a year, no harm in that
but make sure you work consistently if you start full time prep after graduation...
Coz its easy to get carried away when you have lot of free time...

    If that is too confusing...
a short cut i would suggest...
If you started prep (i mean the actual classes, buying and reading proper books, not just deciding that i ll prepare for CSE) before PRELIMS 2012 - Attend this year.
If not skipping this one won't be too bad,
    its a wild card anyway...
  • @Caartey thanx for the useful insight friend.all the best to you for this attempt with maths.once i decided to go with maths but this pattern change changed my decision
  • Attempt is an attempt. Don't waste them.
Decision may depend upon the level of confidence.
Strategy may change after seeing the mains question paper of 2013. A change in strategy may also be the key to successful planning and more importantly a successful attempt.
So do keep these in mind as well.
  • @alexiaaicha surely i will keep all this in mind.thank you

  • Speaking from my experience, I think an attempt should be taken only if one is pretty confident of getting through the exam. I gave the mains last year; as I started off late. pub ad coaching was taken after prelims. The major reason for giving the attempt was because most of my friends at the end of 4th year were taking it and I didn't want to delay my attempt to the next year. I somehow prepared myself to think that if I work hard, I would get through. But, I didn't clear the mains. And now, after revising the GS conventional stuff, I realize how little I remembered when I gave my first attempt last year. Also now the pressure is mounting. And I realized how small a number of people even get a call for interview which implies meager chances of getting through without awesome preparation.
Taking a year off is not a crime. It would give you ample time to comprehensively cover each section. If you hurry through this attempt, most of the learning would be quick, rote and not well founded. If you delay, it could save you the pressure of having to get through in subsequent attempts.
  • @Partho true that sir!!!
@vagabond1 thats what i am thinking
