Pub Ad (Vs) Sociology - Attempt @ 2014

Hi all, Good Morning !

Wish you could give the respective Pro's n Con's for the above, stepping in the shoes of a beginner Btech Grad !

You could elaborate in the lines of exhaustive availability of subject material, coaching in DElhi, Scoring details and add if any :)

P.S. Write in points - so that we can clearly debate on a particular number.

Comments

  • Pub Ad
    Pros: Overlapping with G.S.
    Cons:
    1. Very Dynamic in nature

    2. Wider syllabus than sociology( I am not sure about this fact. If anyone helps clarify this syllabus issue I will be grateful )

    3. Unpredictable. i.e. people say we cant be sure with Pub Ad regarding how much can we score inspite of a decent amount of hard work. UPSC seems to take its anger out on Pub Ad, Geography, Psychology.

Coaching: Mohanty Sir, Bhawani Sir. Although some are saying Mohanty sir no longer teaches some other teacher comes in his place. Again if anybody can clarify this point it will be really helpful.

    Sociology
Pros : Less Subjective than Pub Ad.
    Manageable Syllabus.
UPSC has not made it very tough so far.
Cons: Good writing skills required regarding presentation of answer.
    Coaching: Vajiram , Upendra Sir.
  • @rohit1:

Pub ad : Pro's : It is what everybody is saying, a wider chunk of overlapping of syllabus, which might turn out to be very useful, if seen logically.

Con's : I really can't comment on 1 and 2. But 3 - I had this doubt of getting a better score taking Pubad. When more than 80% of ppl take it up, what is the fair chance of getting a greater edge over the rest ? If we write good stuff, that's non-debatable. But is UPSC fair towards this mass-bias towards pubad @ aspirants ?

Socio: Yeah, Now things seems to be clearer.

    Thanks for the input :)

can i get more input on this issue ? as we can observe from results that success rate of Pub ad is higher than sociology :-/ and overlap with paper-3 of NEW MAINS pattern.
