  • This depends on the convention. Unfortunately, both are used in different places.

To avoid confusion, it is good practice to specify “as defined from the point of view of the source” or "as defined from the point of view of the receiver" when discussing polarization matters.
  • Doubt
When we are talking about left circular polarization, is field vector rotating in counter clockwise direction when the ray is coming towards us or going away from us?

In optics we use the convention of looking at the source (ray coming towards you and not away from you) which need not be specified.
Polarization of light wave is sort of statistical average ( of chirality of photons in the beam) therefore we are allowed to use this convention . Note that if one is talking of photon , physics wise it is absurd to use this convention . It is like being in a reference frame which is travelling faster than photon . So when we talk of chirality of an individual photon we use (have no other option) opposite convention as in optics . However if we talk of say massive particle beams we need to specify what frame is being used since either we can be in a frame that is travelling faster than that particle or slower than it .

Yeah, I found contradicting conventions in Ajoy Ghatak and Feynman. Thanks for the clarification.
  • Is there any one in jia sarai... from this forum.
  • Do we need to study plane wave solutions of Maxwells' equations in anisotropic medium?

Do we need to study plane wave solutions of Maxwells' equations in anisotropic medium?

yes. I think a question was asked in 2013 regarding the same.
  • Doing griffiths....any one doing the same? \m/
  • @nalanda I am planning to start Griffiths in couple of days
  • Ok will post here doubts to make it clear

@TonyStark JAWAHAR BOOK CENTER sells it near and they have the courier facility also.
pls tell which coaching material is better in case there is more than one option??
No choices for you ! only DIAS
DIAS sells its study material ??? I am preparing from Gaya. Haven't joined any coaching. I have downloaded Abhijeet Sir's and Rishabh Gupta sir's notes.
Are DIAS's notes good??? means, are they worth buying ??
