1 ajeeb sapna dekha subah 11 baje. i was sitting with upsc sec and i asked him about pattern change. itna puchte hi usne pahad se dhakka de diya... fir neend khul gai aur pehla kaam roj k tarah is forum pe login kar k dekha to laga k sahi me dhakka de diya hota to aacha tha... :-(( :-??
100 days to go lets start preparing seriously. and post our daily updates and prep strategy. for paper 1 under guidance of @Neyawn sir. paper 2- tmh lets hope for the best.
I wish to make two points: 1. You are the second-degree recipient of this information, so it's by no means a confirmation. It just might be a piece of sadistic disinformation from UPSC secretary. 2. 'It's illogical': well, that's hardly denying it's not happening. UPSC does illogical things all the time. )
So, hold your horses Varun, we still got to wait for the notification. The speculation party isn't over yet. (We can study in the meantime though, I second that.)
Personally, I have no bets on pattern changing or not, I just want to see the notification and get on with it.
@anurag_sinha Rofl.. I am among the ones who want change, Although none of us know what the change would be (if any). Lol. However, in either case I found the whole delay thing pretty weird. As @neyaWn mentioned, it has happened for the 1st time. Change or no change, UPSC could have done better. But like they care what I opine. Lol. Now they should just get the notification out / or the notification for the dates for new notification.
@Anurag_Sinha I second you on that. From today onwards till the next 100 days, I will TRY my level best, and I will post my updates on the kitna kiya thread. Like a daily update Newspaper/GS/CSAT. I think its time for an external monitoring agency, otherwise we'll be stuck here in this limbo ki padhe ya na padhe. So starting from today- lets try our best. I know there are ebbs in studies as well and days when you havent touched a book. That's all right. I believe that even if one does 85-90 days worth serious studies, he/she has a good chance. Therefore, my hardworking and ambitious friends on this forum, let us not get bogged down by all this and start studying. ALL THE BEST!

On a serious note, in preparation what is important is honesty to oneself. Imaandari se kaam karo, mehnat safal hogi. The ball is in your court, if you want to track your own progress. I just thought reading everyone's progress would make one go like oh shoot, I need to buckle up. Or oh I forgot about this section, I will read it now.
@alexiaaicha mautarma i guess if one posts even the headings of the imp news items it will help a lot. as some of us here are newbie and have difficulty reading the newspaper (specially what not to read part) it will save a lot aof precious time. will require help on this from our seniors @Neyawn@asg@Partho@shishir.
Just called up UPSC (23386315). Asked about notification,they said wait till Saturday. Then i asked him,"Sir,please can i ask you one thing?". The peson responded very warmly, "yes you can." I then asked him sir is the pattern changing this year onward. He took a deep breath,paused for a second and said,"yes it is changing this year" and the notification is delayed because of pattern change only,no other reason for that. Then i asked him about whether optionals are scrapped or not. He said wait for the notification. God knows,who is correct and who is wrong. Just a wait and watch game.
@Anurag_Sinha Oh. I think I made an assumption that people had been making notes regularly for the past few months. At least Oct/Nov onwards. This is my ultra long post on how to read the newspaper. Iske baad I don't think I will have the energy and patience to explain again. Thodi understanding dikhaana.
For the news paper - Headlines/Cover page VERY IMPORTANT as also is the last page. You can leave the 'city' part of it - which is generally pages 2/3/4. Leave all the crime beat portion ki yahan par do murder ho gaye, businessman ke ghar main chori etc. LEAVE this OBVIOUSLY. (Accha getting serious) The new section where periscope comes, read that it has some fun stuff in it. Then jump to the 'national' section. You can blindly leave the 'politics' aspect of it - like arguments within regional parties or national parties - one political party said this to the other etc. Just do the parts which are relevant on a national level- like a scheme was made, something the SC might have said, India's relation with other countries. Then 'International' - any BIG news about an international event. {I don't put India and her relations with other countries in the international section, I put it in the national/polity section of my notes.} 'Economy' keep in mind new schemes, international economics events, and any organisation, what RBI says does etc. 'Science and Tech' - doesn't require explanation 'Env n Eco' - doesnt require explanation - any important news on bhed bakri gaajar muli ped paudhe bhumi akaash yes sab isme aata hai - but relevant news on this 'Defence and agencies' - any new projects, test firing of weapons, anything to do with air army navy sort of thing 'Infrastructure' - isme aayega nuclear power plants, energy sector, etc any new highway of national importance - railways etc- like banihal qazigund was in the news sometime back.. big dams etc 'awards' - just do the big awards like nobel prize etc chunnu munnu prizes pe waqt zaaya matt karna 'sports' - olympics jaise events, ya grand prix, tennis etc - india pe focus karna agar hum kuch bahut accha jet ke aatien hain but NOT in cricket 'people in news' - isme koi jaani maani hasti ke baare main agar kuch akhbar main ayaa toh daal dena - generally two marker for mains - pre main itna important nahi hai 'editorial and op-ed' Dont go by the mantra if there is something in this it has to be important. Do only the articles which you think is important and put them in the relevant section. For example in the paper today the editorial has an article on india and france's relation. Any guesses if you should cut and save this article or not?
AND if you havent made notes till date. NOT TOO LATE TO START. Cover the preceding portions from monthly magazines.
