This question dawned upon me all of a sudden, I remember someone telling me that people with tattoos and piercings are not allowed in the interview. Is that so?
Please enlighten me on this.

If you clear the mains ( May God help you to achieve your goal) and then you will be giving the interview for such a celebrated and distinguished service which is also known as the Steel Frame Of India, which decides and delineates the programmes, policies and schemes of Central and State Governments , on whom the prime responsibility lies to maintain the law and order and to uplift the downtrodden section of society, if such would be officers will appear in their interview having a Tattoo on their hand or on the other parts of their body( explicitly), then what do you think , is it good ? or very good ? or best? or what?
And this is for everyone ,not only me. People like me who've just left their teens and entered their twenties and have thought about giving UPSC exam. We might tend to ask silly questions. Because we all are naive. You people are all experienced in your respective fields and we highly respect you. But that does'nt mean you give rude answers It hurts yaar

This question came to my mind also few months back. I have a tattoo on my forearm,. Firstly nobody is going to check you before interview, medical is conducted after interview.and there is no such thing mentioned about tattoos in medical gazette of upsc.
If the tattoo is not easily visible and can be hidden, then it won't be a problem at all in interview and also during service. If it is at the place like neck,hand, where it is difficult to hide it, it can invite some questions, which may leave a bad impact on your interview, and I don't know about IPS, because it is job with uniform, may be there it can be a problem. Unless a person is not infected with HIV and Hepatitis during tattooing(which is rare these days) , tattoos won't be a problem civil service medicals. The CSE medical is not on the lines of defence service medicals, where tattoos are restricted on the body parts and they mention it in their notifications.
No person should not be judged on his ability to lift downtrodden, maintain law n order, policies etc , on the basis of tattoos (PROVIDED tattoo should not be vulgar,offensive etc) ..
As far as Piercing is concerned, if you have some doubt in mind about it, you can always remove it before interview, NO big deal.
