PG in Arts

edited July 2013 in Miscellaneous
After having completed my grad (B.A) this year, I want to pursue PG in Arts.
I had English Literature as my subject in grad.
I am confused from which institute/univ shall I pursue my MA.
Can anyone recommend me some reputed colleges/universities ?
Please suggest regular as well as distance edu. institutions.
I would prefer giving an entrance exam to take up admission.

Thank you.

  • Bro I may be wrong but are not deadlines for PG admissions over by now?

At least in DU,JNU,EFL and such other colleges?

I think you should target only those if you are targeting

Not that it should be my concern but you are among the more serious of aspirants here, I will be frank, I really did not expect you were also considering other options, at least for time being

    @srinath

Thanks bro for your reply. I appreciate it.
Ya it seems that I have missed this year's batch.
Actually I feel having a PG degree won't hurt.
I still have not decided from which institute I am going to pursue my masters.
I may not even join PG at all.
I wanted to have suggestions from the pool of minded people here at forumIAS as I see that every opinion/suggestion (just like yours) posted in this forum has a lot of weight.
Seeking opinions, learning from those opinions and then acting certainly helps.

    Regards,
    Sheen.

So, you want to do MA in English or some other subject?

I think both DU and JNU are really good for MA in humanities/social sciences (depends on the subject). Plus they have lots of ppl who simultaneously prepare for civils (in case it helps). I think I have also written the pros/cons of JNU somewhere in the forum.
So you have to appear for the entrances next yr!
In distance I know abt IGNOU only!

For Masters D,JNU,JAMIA are some of the esteemed Universities. But Entrance Examinations for PG courses of all these Universities for this year were held last month.Admissions are going on right now.
Admission forms of JNU and DU generally come in February and May respectively. They conduct Entrance exams in May-June.For distant courses you can go for DU SOL or IGNOU.

  • @sheen
pg wont hurt...i regret when i look back, didnt not join du masters(history) btw if i am not mistaken arent you interested in PO exams too?
  • ^ though doesn't hurt, but sometimes its a major digression as well!
Often we see students who are like one leg each in two boats- n its khatarnak right? #-o

I want to pursue MA in Eng. Literature.
Thank you guys for your elaborated reply.

Any idea what is the entrance exam pattern? Is merit list based only on entrance exam's performance or grad marks too?
    What about the accomodation ?
    TIA.

    Ya. Interested in PO.
I give lesser time to PO preparation than I give to UPSC preparation.
But whatever I do (in PO prep) , I do it whole-heartedly.

    @TinTin
Ya you are right. You have a point.
Trying to do everything may be dangerous sometimes.
But masters degree does help sometimes. I can't remember instances now but it really does.
Again it is not compulsory to have a PG degree to be successful.
  • ^ you are right - it definitely helps. Broadens our knowledge, sharpens the writing skills etc. I myself am doing MA :)

In DU, I believe they have some seats reserved for BA english hons (DU wale). for rest there is entrance
    For JNU see
