Going through A L Basham - Worst history book ever! More like a story book. The guy keeps putting forward what he "thinks must have been" and irritates me to hell. Are historians supposed to assume so much? When you assume, you make an A** of U and ME.
@ArindamSarkar - Books of ancient history are like that only full of assumptions bcs we can't really say what exactly happened due to lack of resources. and that's why historians fight a lot!! Also, Basham has said in the preface that he'll try to write what is 'generally' accepted by the historians abt a certain issue. In academic circles saying " I think this must have been" is much better than saying "this is what happened".
