To get closer to the truth we have to hear as many perspectives as possible. Here is what P. Sainath has to say
I am a rationalist myself and I condemn all these murders of kalburgi, dhabolkar and others. What I am talking of is misguided morals. You are not against intolerance as a concept as such but you are against intolerance when it comes from top leadership or some top party. If the party is that of a minority and akbaruddin owaisi you won't care a dime what he says about hindus because hey, who bothers right? You won't care if someone in saudi arabia cuts off hand of an indian? You won't care if some muslims murdered a woman because she married a hindu guy? Neither when saudi arabian ambassador rapes women in India? Does the strature of the person and the level of the event define your morality?
Secondly reaction to intolerance is limited within the territories of India. If someone kills van gogh, charlie hebdo, nation states issuing fatwas against salman rushdie then people blame everyone except the perpetrators. The van gogh film was blamed, charlie hebo's cartoons were blamed, west was blamed for paris attacks. Let the indian writers write something against muslims or let them try to question any of their superstitions, don't you think they will suffer the same fate? In Pakistan, one of the law officers(who was a hindu) just said that "prophet mohamad was not a muslim when he was born" which is not even a superstition but a fact because he established islam after 40 years of his age. Yet he was charged with blasphemy and executed. Shockingly, the crowd cheered thereafter.
Try to tackle and look at the problem of intolerance holisticially instead of directing it at one particular religion.
@K9 I remember, our previous discussion also concluded on the same line. I do agree with what you said, but the only thing which I do not feel right is our reaction to every petty thing these days. Media provokes and we react! Why are we wasting our energy in these debates? Aamir Khan will be the last Muslim to get affected by any intolerant act done by Hindus, I agree with this completely. But why do we have to react this much?
Look at the news paper headlines these days. Its been three months since this intolerant debate started hitting the headlines. Because they know that people will react to anything and everything related to Hindu Muslim issues, they make sure that they publish some or the other twisted story with this content.
As P. sainath said in that video, its not that intellectual did not protest during previous regimes, its just that they used to disown responsibility for any such allegation, and the present government makes a virtue of it. Now it may not be entirely true, but I know and you know, that there are some fringe elements in the party, who actually own responsibility for such acts. Hence, giving media more headlines to make us waste our time in such debates.
I remember how people participated online when TRAI asked for our views on internet regulation. Why the same initiative didn't revive for various other issue plaguing this country? We are the youth of this country, we have plethora of opinions as citizens regarding everyday issues which affect our lives. We want to participate in those kind of productive debates, not this rhetorical Hindu Muslim one again and again.
bhai duniya khatre me hai ya nahi, ye to pata nahi ... lekin Islam jaroor khatre me hai.. Is dharm ko aatankwaadiyon ne poori tarah hijack kar liya hai ... aur khed ki baat hai ise maan ne wale samajh nahi paa rahe ... ya accept nahi karna chahte .... 'kamaal ka dharm hai ... nahi maano to sar kaat dete hain ... maan lo to nuni kaat dete hain ....'
No issue is created out of incidents like these, couple of days back there was report on abuses in Madarsas. Unfortunately, these incidents are ignored.
Prominent Sunni Muslim leader Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar Saturday said gender equality was “against Islam”. Addressing a Sunni students’ camp in Kozhikode, the orthodox Sunni leader said, “Where has man-woman equality taken place? It is not going to happen. Gender equality is against Islam, society and human kindness.”
Kerala Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson has said that there is a need for “self introspection with regard to the mission of the church”, and that people must “spread the gospel across the world”.
