One more issue is the allocation of cadre to all those who are in the list, irrespective of their decision to opt for IAS/IPS etc over IFS. Someone in the current batch asked JS in this regard.

How much difference does joining a Mains Test Series brings in the CSM GS marks.....?
I think it could make a lot of difference, what with GS becoming a key in scoring good mains marks. I dont know how far this might help

You don't need to take coaching for wbcs exam unless you're a beginner.. If you're preparing for upsc, No coaching in kolkata is upto the mark including ATIWB... Rather watch mrunal's video and practice test series after basic reading...
