Not really one step solution.you will have to read event before world war from old ncert .In Norman Lowe events are from world war 1st only .Before that happened industrial revolution and many more things.
@will_crack of course for the period before the the world war i used internet and found some good papers that were sufficient for me. but i would any day refrain from coaching material. it gets too repetitive in my opinion.

Regarding coaching institute notes you are absolutely right. It is better to read standard books.There is no prudency in reading a lot of material on single topic .Rather read one source multiple times .I had sriram ias material but I didn't find that upto standard.
