Recent happening which has shaken the geopolitics may led to proliferation of nuclear weapons!!
Certain questions are in my mind which i want to discuss in this forum.
Is it consider as a failure of UNSC which seems to be ineffective when it comes to deal with nuclear weapon states like Iran and North Korea?
Is their any solution other than unilateral or multilateral sanctions which are not effective?
What will be implication of this test on most vulnerable countries like ROK and Japan which are US ally?
Being a permanent UNSC member, what will be China's stand (only North Korea ally) which is condemning this test on first hand ?
Being a nuclear weapon state and non signatory of NPT,will it led to any implications on Indian peaceful nuclear program?
Comments
it can not be considered as UNSC failure, as they took all the necessary actions to stop DPRK, many kind of bans were imposed
we have to understand that DPRK is itself has not opened itself for the rest of the world
bcoz of this and bcoz its not a democratic nation, it is very easy to be as closed as possible
they take very few things from outside world like food etc
so it was not in UNSC's hand to control it in a peaceful manner
on the other hand
DPRK is not iraq or afganistan,
it has one of the largest army and is way ahead in technology
plus it has Chinese support (DPRK has declared that china knew about the Nuclear test prior to the testing day)
and some experts think that like Pakistan , DPRK's nuclear program also is a result of chinese technological support.
so condemning is only a drama.
and chaina was and will never be responsible to the UNSC or rest of the world
it has its own strategies and goals and it works just according to that.
DPRK still dont have missiles which can carry nuclear payload.
so they have some time to relaaaxx
but in near future
they have to take some strict actions
nd by strict i mean some military actions, not war
many countries are eager to trade nuclear tech nd fuel
this has never happened with a non unsc member country which has also not signed the NPT and not willing to sign it in future.
so
india need not to worry about its nuclear programs bcoz of DPRK's tests
but
it is a known fact that india has never supported DPRK's over-ambitious actions
so a possible enemy being powerful day by day is always create some worries.
well thanks for providing your views on this matter comprehensively....
As an apex international organisation UNSC , it is failed to control nuclear proliferation and also is helpless to control NKorea's nuclear tests thus we can say it is by a large failure of it.
Not only China, everybody was aware of this....waiting for the D day....it is speculated that more stringent laws and sanctions will be imposed of nuclear states other than UNSC permanent member....
Regarding India, we are using nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes but stronger Indian nuclear triad is consider as prolific deterrence and sometimes threat in global scenario.....it is expected NSG will use this opportunity to put pressure on India to sign Non proliferation treaty by imposing sanctions which will be supported by UN....
Rightly pointed out, that DPRK has advanced technology but i want to add that they have developed a miniature form of nuclear weapon which can be used with missiles quite easily......thus it is considered as a greater threat at least to neighbouring countries....
bottom line is that Sanctions are not that effective against any country and they tend to fail completely in case of North Korea.
Any Other solution-- well it depends what we have in our arsenal vis-a-vis country UNSC have a fight on the Nuclear issue. Against Iran & N. Korea may be a military strike which is a costly but may be effective option is carried out by securing nuclear sites first. it had to be essentially a surgical one which may control all nuclear sites and remove WMD from there without damaging people and property. (though in actual war time scenario seems difficult)
2- Vulnerable countries-- probably they are not that vulnerable as they have been lamented by nuclear weapon sensitive western media. Both countries are very well developed and in terms of the military technology possessed by them. though in sheer numbers North may be ahead but i wld bargain the benefit of US nuke umbrella enjoyed by S.Korea and Japan also.
3- Chinese stand-- well there are two theories of Chinese diplomacy when it tends to make a balance b/w N. Korea and rest of world. When China had troubled relation with USA it uses N.Korea card to tone down USA but reverse happens when it has good relations. In present times they have very good relations barring few aberration in the trade practices. Condemnation of an act is different and action on something is different. Real Chinese motives wl'd be more clearer how they wl'd act in UNSC if any resolution is moved. Some even points out that china may use N.Korea as Israel in South China sea to keep other global powers away and continuously suspicious about political developments there in.Nevertheless the war vary N. Korea may turn out of Chinese loose control this is the reason why they are bit worried.
