Decision making questions in CSAT (paper 2)

edited February 2013 in CSAT
Is everyone satisfied with the answers given in TMH/Arihant for decision making questions or even with some of the answers for CSAT 2011/2012 paper?

In that case I guess I don't have the appropriate aptitude for being a good civil servant. :((

  • Lol. Quite a few answers were incorrect in TMH, as far as I recall.
  • ohh.. thank god I am not alone [-O<

i have just gone through arihant and yeah
lots of DM questions are answered wrongly

  • tmh is full of mistakes man. haven't gone through arihant. but tmh has a lot of errors. calculation mistakes grammar mistakes. @-)
  • @Anurag_Sinha @fallen_leaves @shishir

1.) You have been made responsible to hire boats at a short notice to be used for floods. But the lowest offered price was approx 3 times what the government had approved. So you would
    a) reject the proposal and call for fresh price
    b) accept the lowest price
    c) refer the matter to government and wait
    d) threaten the boat owners about possible cancellation of licence

2.) You are the DM. Sarpanch elections are going on. During the election in a village, 2 leading parties have a conflict. So you would
    a) direct the police to control the situation
    b) threaten the parties of cancellation of candidature
    c) go there and try to mediate in the situation
    d) write to the election commission about the incident
  • 1) -> Accept the lowest price. As a DM, I have to fix my priorities. In a situation of contingency, my priority will be saving lives, rather than being frugal with public money.

    2) Again, all options are correct. Maybe for such questions, the real query is What would you do first?
  • @anp_prakash
1.) b since I have to hire at short notice so delaying is not good.
2.) c similar logic since elections are going on so I would like to make immediate solutions to the problem

I would go for D in first question as immediately that is possible way to address the situation .It cant be A or C Since B goes against the govt. established price and might lead to cost over runs and provide huge profit to opportunist. Doing D might will help me to come in terms.

For question 2 it shall be A as it is law and order situation so police should deal. Then afterwards incident can be reported to EC and EC only have power to cancel legislature.C is not a good idea as the clash is overflow of emotion and one might get caught between the cross fire.
  • According to me it should be
    1.) b
    2.) c

but according to Arihant publication it should be
    1.) a
    2.) a
