  • Got 157.25.....am actually a bit surprised to see people getting 178 and all.....pretty thick crowd between 140-165 this time.....strategy is simple. Kiran Chapterwise + A rough-work book + a writing equipment (pen/paper/refill/anything that can be used to jot down)...and yes 1 last thing....."man ki aag" (fire within)
  • got 139.75 :( could have scoreed more, not happy, will try to gain in mains.
  • Hello guys, i will be appearing in 2014 CGL in october , this is will be my first attempt... and i am also preparing for UPSC from vajiram ....i want to clear it in my very first attempt as UPSC needs 3-years plans to clear it....coming back to SSC i have a good command over English ,Reasoning and Gk in which i score usually 110-120 /150....but my problem lies with Maths as i dont have sound basics ...i do solve around 15 questions correctly of last 5 7 years ten years of SSC....but supposedly if i clear pre ...in mains maths is worth 200 marks which cant be neglected so i would request you guys to to suggest me ways, tricks any books which i can follow to make a strong foundation in these 2 months for my prelims in october and for mains..
1.Right now i am following -Fast track objective arithmetic by Rajesh Verma..and Ten years ...

2.My basic in Maths is not that bad its like i know the concept but dont know how to apply it and come to the solution.

    3. Kindly tell me any change of book and how to to improve speed with accuracy for pre in order to get minimum 150 in prelims as i aspire for minimum Income Tax or Excise Custom for which cutoffs is always on higher end.

Strategy for Maths if u have around 2 months in hand:
Step 1: Read the basic theory of a chapter from Sarvesh Kumar (Quantum Cat).
Step 2: Read the basic theory of same chapter from Arun Sharma.
Step 3: once u go thru basics (1st thru Sarvesh kumar and then thru Arun Sharma), the next logical step is to get exposed to a vast variety of sums. This is where Tyra's Practice Workbook comes into picture. Solve the illustrations (Only the illustrations and not the exercises) of same chapter from "Quicker Maths Practice Workbook by Tyra (BSC Publications)". This one is the thicker of the 2 books on quicker maths by Tyra. In general, people don't follow this book in the right spirit. This book teaches maths the wrong way but with the right tools. Hence, it is the tools we need to borrow from the book, not its approach towards maths in general. So, DON'T follow the 'Formula Approach' elucidated in Tyra's Practice Workbook. Only use the book to get urself acquainted with the vast variety of sums. So u Read a Rule (that book is divided into Rules), and DON'T look at the formula for the rule, but straight away go to the illustration of that rule. u solve that illustration using the basic skills u acquired form Sarvesh and Arun.
Step 4: Kiran Chapterwise Maths. Now its time to hone ur skills using the questions already asked in SSC exams. So u practice using Kiran Chapterwise Maths. In this book, questions in every chapter are arranged in a chronological manner. u start from the latest questions and then go backwards in time.
For trigonometry, u may follow Mrunal's articles. However, they have limited usage. Hence, its better to go thru NCERT textbook for trigonometry.
Though i used to enjoy maths in general, but owing to sub-standard higher secondary schooling i was a dumbo with regard to aptitude questions asked in competitive exams. I reached from 4-5 sums in SSC CGL Prelims maths paper to around 40+ correct sums using the above strategy. though there are a lot more details that can be added, but then again, the onus is on the individual of fine-tuning his/her strategy towards maths.
    Best Wishes...
P.S. the above sequence of steps is very important. It has a reason which one will understand after one completes even a single chapter of aptitude using this approach. And yes as always, this may not be the best way for u. so try it out, use it if u like it, else dump it.
  • plz provide the flipkart link for kiran chapterwise ..because there are 2 / 3 similar books there

but if u r near to a book stall, better buy it from there as Kiran books are sold at 30-35% discount which obviously flipkart =(( ...yes "gudup" (= drink) jata hai....
