SnT sources

edited May 2014 in Science & Tech
Hy guys please highlight the important sources/books for SnT part of GS prelims.Right now i have started with 11th Biology NCERT and im planning to do that plus 12th ncert on bio and will read tmh manual for snt part on bio.I have never done bio before hence need to start with basics. Also for phy and chem im relying again only on tmh.For current affairs i have hindu cutting plus will dig on the net if time permits. Now is this method appropriate to tackle atleast a few questions on Snt?Please enlighten me!

  • Some portions are meant to be left out and SnT is one such section. Dont waste your time on it. Remember, in case of UPSC knowing what not to do is more important than knowing what to do!

are but but the questions asked are so difficult sometimes,I mean some of these 2012 questions require exact memorising!!

  • the weigtage of biology is miniscule in the the bigger picture..but if anyways u have decided to cover each and every part of G.S..class11 and 12 of biology..is more than enough...u can even check out the ques asked directly from it
  • bro thanks for the suggestion,ya 11+12 is huge but i have never had bio after 10th so need to dp it from the basics,I guess im ok at phy+chem(boards mein bahut kiya tha;-))infact last year there were 9/13 questions on bio in snt part,so its not miniscule that way,ya but for docs like u must be a cakewalk;-) I think bio>phy>chem is the precedence.
  • I don't think it is wise to read 11th and 12th class books (Phy,chem, bio) for SnT. It is better to leave such section.

+1 (unless you've already read them in school - like people like me)

Low funda stuff = ncerts of lower classes
High funda stuff = newspaper + googling
India specific stuff = IYB + PIB + newspaper

Remember, SnT has a large amount of overlap with Environment, Geography, etc. Unless it gives you a fertile convulsion, try doing the basics.

so should I start with 7-10 ncerts?or do nothing at all(as ul are suggesting:-(
  • i don't think reading ncert bio 11th 12th will do any harm(if done at last)

Start from 9/10th and refer down only if required. If you finish those, stuff in lower classes should automatically be covered. Use the net SOS.
