@faisal- from last year's marks, a 50% score on the essay is very solid, but not great.
Chalta hai. Importance, panacea, same line of thought. I think bas itna farak hai ki when you say panacea, you have to talk about the problems a bit more explicitly.
IMHO: Nobody here is an expert. It is just rumour mongering and trouble making. As such the states need IAS and IPS officers. So it is better to involve yourself in studying for the exam than wondering about pattern change or vacancy change.
i wanted to know what are the average % of marks that are awarded in case of optional, essay and interview, based on previous results. i gauge that in case of GS it is 40%.

I think marks awarded depends upon how well u have written an answer! there's no average marks as such imo which they give irrespective of the quality of an answer
Last year was a game changer in marks awarded. Essay maybe was the same range. But average can't be decided. With this year's new pattern, I am not sure whether one can predict avg marks.
