Dear Friends,
A lot of our us who are concerned that we may not be that good with English, want to appear for the Personality Test in Hindi Medium. Can someone here share their own experience or someone whom they personally know, and who has gotten good marks in the Interview?
Also, if someone can connect with a candidate like that who has been able to score more than 160+ in the Interview, it will be a good verification. Most people who have not appeared for the Interview, or have single good experience of the Interview are of the opinion that "Board will be reasonable" and not judge you on the choice of your language.
However, on a personal level when I spoke to at least 3 people who have sat in the board as members and 2 other people who were members of the Commission , their first question was "Why? Why does he want to appear in Hindi medium if he can write in English?" Also they were not convinced with my suggestion that "the candidate was more comfortable in Hindi".
Also DPA Sir, also said the same thing when I asked him this questions a few years ago, when he had just retired as the Chairperson.
If people who have done so, can be kind enough to give their views, it will be mighty helpful for the community.
TIA

PT marks = 159.
This is an important yet less discussed query, half of aspirants I know want their PT in Hindi / regional language even if they write mains in English. So anyone with first hand experience, please shed some light on it.
1) one can share his experience and variations in interview marks if one has appeared in both hindi and English medium in interview stage.
2)how much English technical words one can use while answering in hindi.
3) how much efforts/time does it require to switch to hindi mode during interview preparation.
Thanx neywan sir for starting this thread.
The restriction of using technical terms in the chosen language only comes while writing mains answers, and there, too, you can write English version of that technical term in bracket.
I am wasted half a day getting in touch with all the people who have been in such dilemma and have taken interview in Hindi.
I have been able to speak to Anil, who was my student last year and the year before. He did his schooling from Hindi medium, got into IIT thereafter. He had taken his first interview in English and was not comfortable in it.
He got some 140 marks. In the next attempt, he changed medium to Hindi. Sujata Mehta board gave him 190 , he got IRS. This year he got some 178 marks in a Bassi Board and will be joining Foreign Service.
He also spoke of other few people whonjave done so, and gotten good marks.
However, he did add that having countryside primary education or Hindi medium can be good enough grounds for choosing Hindi medium.
the marks variation, he said on the basis of his experience was that of 15-20 marks and no more.
I have been able to telephonically speak to him and a few others. ( There are people who changed the language and did not benefit from it ), and apparently we have reasons to believe that in current times if some of us are facing issues with English language and have sufficient grounds for choosing Hindi for Interview, we are not disadvantaged by it. If we have language skills issues in English, we can safely take up Hindi as the medium, subject to sufficient reasons.
Please note that I have merely passed the information to people here, on as it is basis. I am no expert in these issues, and i believe that elements of subjectivity and biases exist in the interview.
P.S. Anand Sharma and Aparajita Sinsinwar , both joining service this year helped me reach the various candidates. I have telephonically spoken to 7-8 candidates so that we could have something verified here.
I asked this question also. There were some candidates ( older ones ) who got less marks in Purushottam Aggarwal Board. But then he is a Hindi Scholar and has retired from the Board.
The current board that we have has been accepting of use of English words in Hindi medium interview. This is what has been communicated to me by several students.
None of it is my personal opinion. In the end decision has to belong to you as to how you want to proceed with language for personality test.
He had written mains in Marathi but opted Hindi for Interview. His interview score was 199.
