  • Can anyone suggest me who is better ,Mahapatra sir or upendra gaur sir ?
And is coaching really helpful for this optional ?
Yes coaching does help. Upendra sir would build your paper 1 very well but has some issues in p2 related to the data he gives or the topics he misses out on. Mahapatra sir teaches things in a more contemporary manner but gives out a lot of material which has to be managed well with shorter inter-related and current supported notes, which you're gonna have to do anyway for revision. I'd prefer upendra sir for a good foundation of the subject matter and buy mahapatra sir's notes for some topics. But the significant catch is the time taken to travel to safdarjung enclave, and an exhausting exercise overall, which can be an issue for some people. All the best.
Is it worth it to travel daily for his classes daily as I stay in Karol Bagh and I have to manage GS also?

The thing is there are teachers here in orn who teach specific portions well, or are very competent in test series. I'd mention a vague overview of that too if someone needs that. But the sociological perspective is what you really need in your answers, if you ask veterans and lesser mortals like me, we've even read the blue Haralambos when we had our notes filled to the brim, just to get a POV. That is where upendra sir would really help. You could divide things into two. Take p1 before pre and p2 after. He makes you write old PYQs too, though I'd recommend a test series parallel to it, at least for the first mains.
I really hate delhi travel and I sympathise with the concern, it'd take you 5 hours total door to door if you live 5-6 minutes from karol bagh station, people also form groups there and travel by a shared car too. Id recommend mahapatra sir too, and people have gotten good marks from his mentorship, but only if you have a humanities background and get the usual concepts a bit.
  • share ur marks guys..

  • Ppr 1 - 93
    Ppr 2 - 126
  • @Acidpop Bhai socio Ka performance Kaisa RHA?...one of my friend got very poor marks ...210

Yup. It has been a rude shock for me too. Can't decipher much right now, would focus on tangibles like more writing and a revision before prelims.
  • @Acidpop Bhai ye Dekho...mujhe bharosa Nahi ho RHA ISS Baat pe...

Hello everyone. My name is Vishal. I got AIR 63

I got 329 marks in sociology

    Paper 1- 171
    Paper 2- 158

A little background about me- I’m an engineer with 2 years work experience.

I studied sociology on my own and didn’t even joined test series.

The reason I’m so eager to help others I’m optional is that I did optional in first attempt in 20 days. I didn’t joined coaching as I thought I won’t clear prelims. And when I did I had so limited time that I couldn’t go for multiple sources and coaching.

    This is my booklist
    - [ ] Tusharanshu notes available online as pdf - I have memorised this completely
    - [ ] Orange book selected reading
    - [ ] Chronicle ias solved previous years papers

Guys I never touched ignou or blue book. I don’t say it’s bad . It’s good but I didn’t had time.

My reasoning for limited sources is this- you’ll hardly get 15 minutes for 20 marker and 8 minutes for 10 marker. In that limited time and pressure in my opinion limited sources can fetch you decent marks.
