Guidance for Philosophy Mains 2014 : Significance of coaching?

edited January 2014 in Philosophy

Hi,
I am looking for guidance on philosophy optional for CSE 2014.
Having a liking for the subject-in-itself, i am already reading the standard books and am able to grasp the topics very well ( At least so it seems to me )

However, I am thinking of taking classes more so for guidance than for syllabus coverage.

Apart from the popular ones like Mitras & Patanjali, I have also come across advertisements of Anoop Kumar Singh & Ambuja Srivastava.

All those who have taken/are taking classes for Philosophy optional from either of the above four, please provide your invaluable reviews/opinions on the same.
I am specifically looking for following points -
1. Individual attention/mentoring
2. Test series, answer analysis, feedback etc.
3. Interactive classroom learning, discussions etc.
4. Paper 1 and Paper 2 topics' coverage
5. Notes provided

If there's any other and better guidance available for philosophy in Delhi, please mention the same along with your reviews on that.

Thanking in advance :)

  • Go for patanjali. I had done coaching from it,its very good except test series.
  • Pls other than thinking for any of these...simply join patanjali...I too had doubts earlier as I had to switch from geography but I found the classes to be excellent here

PS: I am presently doing it!!
  • Thanks @dream_ips and @vasu
I have heard that Mitra sir's class is more interactive, and so going to try that first.
Is there anyone from Mitra sir s class who might provide a review ?

@priyankas i have done my philo classes @mitras..and as far as review goes it is as bad as any other coaching...and as good as any other coaching....since i have not studied at patanjali cant compare..but mitra sir is very helpful...and very interactive....and i find his class notes (after making necessery adjustments) worthy of upsc standards....hope that helps
  • @all: philosophy can be prepared by our selfstudy also. No need to go to a coaching class for that. Regarding philosophy , its an optional like any other optional, dont take it like, it exhibits spiritualistic and ascetic and a celibatic essence. Its not like that yar, one can prepare philosophy at his/her own, so no need to worry =;
  • @all,
Am thinking to change my optional from pub ad to philosophy. I did attend mitra sir class today, as its first class am not able to take decision regarding joining for class or not.
Any one's staying in Old rajendra nagar who has given mains with philosophy? If so pls do let me know.. got to spk to u guys a lot regarding philosophy.

Is there any blog by rank holders who explains the strategy alkng with book list for philosophy preparation? If so pls share it.

    My doubts:
Is coaching really necessary? Can't I do on my own?
Studying from notes both printed and written of mitra or patanjali along with standard books is not enough?

    2. a very fantastic book by former president of india Dr Radhakrishnan, volume1 and
volume 2, by oxford india paperbacks
    3. other inidan philosophy websites devoted to spiritualism can also be helpful in this
    regard.

    b). western philosophy- 1. yaakub masih ,
    2. frank thilly( the name of book is history of western philosophy , publication is -
    central publishing house),
    3. for this part you can also purchase the books by motilal banarsidas publishers , new
delhi, this publication has its mastery over the publication of excellent philosophy
    stuffs available in india

c). contemporary philosophy- 1). in this portion you will have to do a lill bit of internet research , not very
    much.
    2) D M dutta , name of the book is contemporary western philosophy.
    3) some portion of this part is also available in frank thilly.
  • @Santhosh_Nagaraj : coachings are attended by those aspirants , who feel that they will not be able to cover the syllabus with its core values with epitomistic and phenomenal results, and i tell you na bro , the prime reason for attending the philosophy coaching has been mentioned by me in my very first comment.

every person in this world is a philosopher, his mind his attitude, his doings all the things are regulated by his/her philosophy towards the life, someone is idealistic, someone is realistic, someone is pessimistic, someone is optimistic, someone carries pragmatism is his /her life's prime motto, while someone believes in rationalism or he/ she is empiricist . And off course we all are pursuing all this , because we want to have an Existentialism in our life .
  • Hello guys
