Thinking of changing optional from public administration to Chemistry

Hello Guys, I have been failing in mains from last 3 attempts. In 2017, i gave my best shot at public administration, with all the diagrams, charts, completed papers fully but still couldnt qualify and was surprised to see that only 248 in pub ad led me down. Then I gave 2018 attempt with lack of confidence and doubt in mind that why i could get only 106 in 2017 despite being satisfied, then again failed in mains now. Now, I am planning to switch from public administration to Chemistry optional, so that I can try forest also
I will drop this year to rework my strategy, and meanwhile work somewhere. I am a graduate from a top tier IIT, and was excellent in chemistry in jee preparation years and also I took only one course of chemistry in college and got A in that. Can anyone share their tips or experience regarding this decision. Further, I may not be able to take DIAS classroom coaching but join test series and take their notes. All suggestions, opinions, guidance are welcome.

  • If your department was Civil, Mech or Electrical, consider them strongly before opting for chemistry. Ps- I switched from chemistry to engineering optional
  • engineering is a good choice imo. few of my friends stuck with geo pub ad cleared mains this time in 4th mains finally

Thanks for ur valuable opinion, but I was extremely weak in civil, due to my extreme weakness in mechanics
  • I am finding it tough to get hang of the paper 2 of the Chemistry Optional. Few topics of chapters like atomic, electrochemistry and coordination are also a bit dicey imo.... I always have a lack of confidence in this optional...I don't know why.
PS: I am a mechanical engineer from one of the NITs, you are from IIT so definitely your base will be strong, you can play on your strength.

Clayden I had started but it is a bit bulky....so it will take time....I think around 2 months, let's see how it will pan out.
  • If you compare pcm at upsc level than chemistry is very easy and easily manage able in short time and topics like electro chemistry and coordination compounds are easiest they are easy to grasp and easy to recall

Where are you based sir, if you are in Delhi, if possible sir, please guide me for 1-2 days, so that I can have a directed preparation. It will be a great help for me sir. I don't know why I always have a fear factor while preparing this optional.
