Why is it that so many mechanical engineering graduates do no take it as their optional ?

Is it only because it takes a lot of time or is there some other reason for a large number of mechanical engineers not choosing it and going for humanities optionals.

Comments

  • Humanities optionals especially Geography, History, Sociology, PSIR etc. help with GS papers... Directly...
Plus humanities subjects help build critical humanistic vocabulary which is essential for GS2, essay etc. Eg. Constitutionalism, Statutory vs. Legal, Nationalism vs Patriotism etc. are concepts whose differential meanings you can appreciate by studying humanities only...

Or you learn them when your elder sister is writing mains and you bug her every now and then with silly queries... (ignore this last part, meant for someone else  )

it requires lot of time plus uncertainty, drains ur gs prep time, requires regular practice or it will be zero aftr sometime unlike other optional in whch u can experient ur writing skills n ol,
but if u love it u can take it, return dene pe aya to kafi acche deta h :)
  • The first criteria that needs to be fulfilled for opting for an engg subject as your optional is a good command over it. Most of us shy away from the labour involved in preparing our grad subject. Going through all the technical stuff once again is not a welcome thought, tbh. Unless one is also appearing in ies, gate, etc.
