@ suraj- friend basham i wont advise unless ur optional history, just keep 1 source, revise multiple times..tmh or grover is full fledged book-not some summary..like tables at end of spectrum , used to be on tips of many aspirants- upsc stopped with it, or like associations asked or persons upsc used to ask like usha mehta-underground radio etc, are provided in list at end of spectrum or organisations at end of chapter religious and social movements with founders...
its just my advise, u may follow what u feel as right..
some e.gs- how upsc targeting few books for traditional part also- THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES-NOT INTENDED TO DISCUSS ANSWERS OF THIS YEAR PT QUESTIONS- ONLY UPSC KEY CAN TELL CORRECT ANSWERS NEXT YEAR-
1. laxmikanth- still best book for polity, just see it with bare act while reading...how targeting- a. ask topics which are little philo related- law and liberty, last yr also they asked something like this..b. ask where laxmi focused on explaining part and not ' rattafication '- e.g-money bill- read it from laxmi first, and then read from bare act, then see this year question..
2. see sriram eco- one of finest books for static part of eco- see 2018 edition-which came this year start- chapter money market- page 111 top paragraph- on treasury bills- clearly stated-there are no treasury bills issued by State govt..now someone also quoted bare act article for same-that state can issue-with vajiram keys stating jharkhand eg
another thing which can be inferred from above is- that if upsc not targeting above sources- is that they are integrating current affairs in detail with static portion-like a. jharkhand issuing it { not sure, whether they hv done it or not, but vaji saying it has }
b. barren island volcano-ncert given last erupted 1991, but in newspapers mentioned regularly last yr that it regularly erupting- since 2005, even in 2017 it erupted..
so what u derive from above is upto u, as it is ur exam and ur selection on the line..just consider such things before blindly following any coaching advise, like for best advice for mains- see nandini reply-just after mains 2017 or yo yo choti singh advice- one of best advices which have been given apart from newyan and dr king. suggestions
I used the free version, crossed the limit very soon. I like to use the "clipper" of evernote. Also, there are highlighting and other options available in paid version. Was thinking about the positives, but looks like a distant dream now.....:P
You crossed the limit of 60 mb ? How much images do you insert in your notes? For my subscription only 4 days are remaining for this month with 40 mb still there. 20 mb used for this June month.

I must have done something horrible. Don't know, but it said so, may be the images are the culprit. Do you clip the articles and all? @ravenclaw
avoid spectrum- u have enough time to do something better- go for grover if possible, aur agar time utna na mileh toh als wizard ka kar loh- its like a story type summary, but still advise will be for grover or if want upsc specific see TMH book-if not grover
also new ncerts have come in market-in may month's last week indian express -front page -came out with list of newly added topics over 2 days- see them- many new names of freedom fighters were introduced also in that-new historical events etc- cover those also now-baad mei time nahi milega-google karke list bana lena...even tat pm kalyan yojana-they asked in this pt- is one of two schemes given in new ncerts- given in indian express may list
upsc is butchering old books-as i told u once earlier also before pt 2018..so avoid spectrum-just an advise, sorry if u disagree, adios
Thank you for the info on the ncerts. I had a look at the changes mentioned in IE. Majority of the changes are made in the category of std 10th and below and we are aware about the nature of these changes (let's not getting into that debate)
But do you think UPSC would also mould itself by framing pre exams in the direction set by these changes ?
