Does UPSC follows a scaling system in an optional subject ? If yes how does it works ?

I do not have any authentic information. Do scaling sometimes harms meritocracy ?

  • Tanya!! Ideally you should be thinking about how much should I score to clear pre.. How ever good u r at clearing it!!
  • I don't think they follow any scaling kind of thing. If they did, then marks of those from humanities optional would be at par with those from technical subjects. Well, this is my assumption. I could be wrong.

    You are.
  • Plus, they also follow a policy of butchering of selective optionals every year. So, this also suggests that they don't follow scaling.

exactly..and the best example is 2012 pub ad massacre
  • On average a person with mathematics optional gets 450-500 out off 600.
But after scaling he gets around 350.
But scaling is important as you cannot expect aspirants from literature or social science optional getting more than 280 on average.

clearly, upsc has abandoned scaling except for science optionals.. just look at the performance of anthro this time and from last 3 years..

Ye Anthro toh jackpot lag raha hai. I know someone in IES - took anthro last time and reached interview - he said ki anthro ki kripa hai. People r saying from last 3 years that it ll b butchered but its not happening and may not even happen bcoz itne me toz optional hi kahtam ho jayega.
