Though i was very sure of clearing prelims but i used control+F to check for the first three digits of roll number and then subsequently proceed by checking with increasing digits. After every stage i was happy that i am still in. It gives me enough time to relax by the time my roll number comes...
Nice! Another dilemma: If you get an interview call, are you going to scroll the final result from top to bottom or will you start checking from last rank first?
Last time i scrolled the final list from top to bottom and was not pleased with the findings . This time if i get a shot at interview, I'll do the opposite.
Main control F karunga. Getting guillotined is better than getting drawn and quartered.
@sananthan Aisa nahi ho tumhare saath, but agar Control F me roll number nahi mila toh file close toh nahi hi karoge, fir toh manual karoge hi ek baar :P Pehle guillotine aur fir drawn and quartered.
Last year I came across a blog by someone who had rank 300 a few years back. So this guy started checking the final list from top to bottom and reached around 200th rank and started losing hope, so he started checking from bottom and still he couldn't find his name for so many pages. He ended up reading the entire list almost before finding his name in the middle.
Quick thinking and fast Decision Making are essential qualities of a civil servant.
To elaborate, in the interview we are asked role playing questions like "If you are the SP of a place and there is a bomb blast, what will you do?"; or "If you are the DM and rain has failed that year what will you do?".
In these questions we have to work with whatever information we have and come out with effective and sensible answers which will impress your interviewer. It should also be noted that they give you very less time to analyse the question, i.e. you have to come up with an answer quickly or they will move on to the next question.
GS4 case studies can be said to be an extension of this concept, where they give you little information and very little time to come up with an innovative yet legally sound answer.
So you believe that mains marks are legitimate and not any random score inconsistent with content of your answer?
And you also believe that interview marks are fair and the interviewer actually tests your quick thinking and fast decision making ? If yes, why all interview board does not asks such questions? Is it justified that some board qualify people by asking simple graduation questions and other board disqualify people by being not convinced to answers to such case studies ?

I think the direction depends a lot on how the interview goes but the best option would be to just randomly start from middle and go on until you find your name. It just keeps you away from disappointment for a longer time. The top-down or bottom-up traversal kills your hope on reaching the end. ctrl+F is a suicide in these conditions.
