    Have target of climate related current affairs.
    Esp IPCC , wilkinson like reports. Last 2 years papers have been asking recent impacts of cc.

  • Hi, I wanted to ask a question from geog optional people. There was a question in 2016 Mains about air mass in gs paper1 - Discuss the concept of air mass and explain its role in macro-climatic changes.
    Seemed like a simple question but somehow I felt I didnt do justice to it.
    What would be a good answer to it according to you guys? And if anyone gave mains that year, what all did u write?

    Hi, I wanted to ask a question from geog optional people. There was a question in 2016 Mains about air mass in gs paper1 - Discuss the concept of air mass and explain its role in macro-climatic changes.
    Seemed like a simple question but somehow I felt I didnt do justice to it.
    What would be a good answer to it according to you guys? And if anyone gave mains that year, what all did u write?
    It was general, strt Q. Only needed to pepper with examples.
    - e.g see how airmass changes after passing gulf of mexico. it becomes warm and moist. How it further proceeds and causes rain.
    similar egs see- Laal Climatology!!

    How did you attempt it?
    I didnt use many examples... Major weak point I guess. First, I defined air mass. Then I drew a rough world map showing various air masses, continental, maritime.. then I wrote about temperate cyclones being caused from air masses and that affecting climates of various regions. Thats all I think, as far as I remember...

    but Q was about influence of Ocean current I guess. those airmass that pass thru ocean current count i think!

    Ocean currents werent mentioned. Wherever air masses played a role, we could have mentioned that.

    - Cold airmass moving over warm surfaces -> instability and precipitation; E.g - Cold cA airmass moving over warmer Norwegian sea -> creates Arctic smoke; Bermuda airmass (mT) causes noreasters

    - warm airmass moving over colder surface -> stable and will bring calm condition

    - Air mass interacting with adjoining air mass creates fronts and frontal weather. E.g - cP air mass of Siberia interacting with mT moving from Atlantic or pacific side into land cause temperate cyclone

    The question with airmass and ocean currents was in optional paper 1.!!
