Dilemma! Please help regarding preparation.

While preparing it is obvious that one may get drowned in ocean of material, coaching, test series especially in the era of easy accessibility and affordability. Now i need help from all my forumians. After restricting and limiting oneself to limited basic material and one newspaper and one current affairs magazine my questions are-

1. How much test series one should attempt? 1/2/as many as possible?

2. How to minimise negatives and avoid mistakes despite having idea of topic in Preliminary test papers?

3. How to increase concentration and focus while reading any question or article or any chapter?

4. How to control emotions and anxiety? Big issue!

5. Best way to revise. Daily/Monthly/anything else?

Please answer these questions and help in resolving my dilemma! Thanks.

Purely my thoughts. I haven't been successful till now so discard my advice liberally, wherever you feel it's not correct.

    1. For prelims : 2 is a good number. Vision and insights combined with full length tests of forum (if you have the time to attempt and more importantly REVISE all the tests). But the tests series is not the end all. 2 test series won't mean that you will be apprised and prepared with all issues important for prelims. But use these test series to make your strategy. After around 10 tests you should know how much you attempt, how much you should, your correction rate, your success rate in guess work etc. And also, some important facts should be noted from each test and revised over and over again.
But remember that revising tests is as important as attempting them. Don't fall in the trap of n number of tests before prelims. Do n/2 but revise them many times. Don't attempt once and let it gather dust. After each test, do an analysis of mistakes and points learnt. By the 5th or 6th revision of the test you should have just half a page of facts from that test. No more.

    2. Refer 1 above

    3. Why do you lose your concentration? That might help in answering this question

    4. Stay busy. Read what chakresh Mishra said about luck in this examination. You'll understand the unpredictability. You'll appreciate it rather and then try to be detached. it's difficult to be detached but try. Also be physically active - really helps counter anxiety. Jog/walk/run!

    5. Whatever works best for you. No best strategy. Each person is different and all our minds are wired differently. What works for me might not for you :)

    All the best :)
  • @nandini mam @DrKingSchultz please tell some approach for mains current portion! As nandini mam told for prelims above. I am quite confused as its my first attempt and started my prepared just now.. Hoping for some response

Thanks especially for point one. 1st point was most important for me and yes Rule of 2 will definitely help. I got your point of analysing test after attempting it, which I usually miss out as I rush things and go superfast. Thanks once again for helping. Best wishes from my heart.
