  • My sister did bsc home sc from du. Did msc in apparal science. Think about getting admission in masters and do specialisation in textiles, food tech or any other stream as basic bsc doesnt serve much purpose.

Work opportunities in textiles are of merchandiser in export houses- a lot of jobs here in delhi in this domain. Can move to teaching adhoc in fashion institutes as well.
Just look at msc courses of Institute of home economics (DU) and classifieds of any newspaper.

Still which are the reportable courses and institutes from which she can pursue max and wheee job opportunity is sure short.
  • I know this much only , IHE has msc courses which cater to all specialisations of bsc hs.

In private a course from NiFT could help if merchendising is the goal.

HS can be extended to many fields and i am telling only about textiles side.

Social work and ngos are also decent options.
Please visit IHE website, they may have explained it better.
  • @kira is your sister placed now ? Where , which company and is the package good?
  • After MSc, She worked for a year only, as a merchandiser, got ~25k in 2014 i think.

    Not working now.
  • @24madaeve i think teaching job will be best( colleges, schools etc). They pay decently plus less workload but tell her to pursue msc
  • Actually my friend has taken communication for specialisation in bsc home science final year. So she can pursue msc in communication only. Any suggestion further to this ?
  • @24madaeve i think you should confirm it but msc can be done in home science also. In final year every one has to choose some specialisation subject

ForumIAS has been able to place 24 people from the forum in past 15 months with salaries ranging from 3.6lpa to 10.8 lpa in the private sector.

We hope to provide ways and means to some of good members to get absorbed in the private sector and should be able to place 100 members annually.

    Just an update.

To be honest, we would like to expand to be able to absorb 1000 people annually with what we do / other companies which regularly get in touch with us for human resources.

There is immense potential in the crowd that we have here, if they engage meaningfully. But many are not aware of what skills they need to build during Dec - Jan instead of wasting time so that they can hedge their career risk.

We want to do a lot of things that are actually useful - but then something or the other keeps happening wasting an entire day and sometimes 2-3 days.

If any of you want to pitch in, do get in touch.

Some of the opportunities we have make for viable career options which are better than to some extent non class1 government jobs.
  • @root Can you please provide the email id through which we can contact for job prospects?

Hey @root pls elaborate I am interested.
  • Just few pointers

    1. You must be very clear that you want to work full time or part time.
    2. Since most of you have a large gap in work exp, you need to be very specific about one thing that you are very good at - Like if you are good at lets say Content Writing - or Copyrighting , or Management of remote teams, or programming or man management

You can send a detailed write up to ravi@forumias.com - With in Title "Hiring"

You must specify the kind of work that you are looking for, your last drawn remuneration as per a bank statement ( this will be verified , so do not lie at all ), college , you can add your UPSC attempts as well - in a resume.

A lot of law firms, Start ups, NGOs are in touch with us, but even after having so many people here, we are not able to meet their requirements in human resources.

Also, in your free time, take some courses that have commercial value - like mastering Excel like a Pro or learning accounting on Quickbooks.

With so many start ups and small companes in education field these days, you have no idea how young 25 years olds will be holding positions disproportionate to their age , if they develop the right capabilities
