Hey. I'm a bachelor in physics and currently pursuing my masters in the same. Can anybody guide me whether it would be wise to take physics as optional subject? Also if anybody here has done the same. TIA
der r aproximately 150 ppl writing mains with physics every year.it is one the best science optional,dias is famous coaching.der is also a thread runing
BSc people perform miserably in physics. Don't take it. U don't have the competitive edge required. Leave it for top rankers of IIT JEE entrance exam or similar kind of aspirants who have proved their competitive might before. U will most probably perform pathetically. U wont like my words but its a fact. You are too mediocre to take physics.( Who does BSc these days?) I have seen many such 'BSc' aspirants opting for physics or mathematics, then realising later that its not their cup of tea.
My optional is also physics. So, as I observed most of the M.Sc syllabus overlaps with civil service physics optional syllabus. In fact you study so much more in each topic mentioned in the syllabus in M.Sc.I suggest you to go through the previous year question papers once and make your decision. All the best.
@freeman I also had a pretty good rank in JEE. I could have gone for engineering but I love physics more. Given my 'competitive' aptitude and desire to pursue physics, I took admission in physics department of a reputed university for my bachelor's in physics hons (that too after a screening). So it was not out of helplessness or mediocrity that I opted for physics
@Tanya Bahl ...IMO, go for Physics without any second thought . If u can, join DIAS; even otherwise , u can do well. U can also take help from NPTEL videos for some topics.
PS: I have: (1) non-Physics optional , (2) lot of regrets
@Tanya Bahl : I have taken physics as an optional so I might give some inputs regarding it.
Pros: Quite predictable and definitely a scoring paper. you can also appear for Indian Forest Exam
Cons: Course is a little vast so you have to put in sufficient time to cover it. It also requires regular revision and writing practice.
@freeman Bhai, you don't need to be from some IIT to prepare physics as an optional. There are several people who have cleared it with basic engineering or science background. For e.g. Nidhi Gupta, Diana devi etc.
@Tanya Bahl : I have taken physics as an optional so I might give some inputs regarding it.
Pros: Quite predictable and definitely a scoring paper. you can also appear for Indian Forest Exam
Cons: Course is a little vast so you have to put in sufficient time to cover it. It also requires regular revision and writing practice.
@freeman Bhai, you don't need to be from some IIT to prepare physics as an optional. There are several people who have cleared it with basic engineering or science background. For e.g. Nidhi Gupta, Diana devi etc.
+1 syllabus of Bsc physics and physics optional is quite similar...so you might be at advantage ...but prerequisite for scoring well in this optional is PRACTICE,PRACTICE AND then some more PRACTICE
