    Your sources of preparation bro?
  • Paper 1 - Ncerts + Baron mainly also skimming through Morgan and Atkinson..paper 2 samarak swain only
  • Did anyone find paper1 to be tougher than last year?
  • I think very less candidates from psychology this time..from my mumbai center..only 7 students were there.
  • Psychology paper was much tougher than last year especially paper 1! No direct questions...theories also demanded criticism and not direct points. Last year was pretty easy And direct
  • I think both paper 1 and paper 2 were of moderate difficulty. There were some straight forward questions and a few required application of mind. Especially in paper 2 few questions were verbatim from syllabus. As compared to last year the paper seems relatively easier.

    And your sources brother?
  • How is the score in psychology optional usually was it good on an avg
  • papers were slightly on a tougher side...not because of questions per se but because the way questions were framed....asking 'critically analyse'..'evaluate' etc....further questions like 'are projective tests really projective in nature?'...one doesn't have to explain in detail the theory or what projective tests are in detail....but their applied portion....and again one cannot stretch a few points for 15 or 20 markers...one needs concrete multiple points for them...projective tests have to be connected to other areas like testing, various biases, cultural issues, uncertainiity of ambigiouity, cultural differences in interpretation..for a well prepared student..still not difficult but to do that under time pressure makes it tough...time-management is all that matters now...I mis-managed and felt short of atleast 15 minsin paper1..in one 15 marker coukd barely write 3 lines...for other 1 and 5 compulsory questions definitely couldn't write in quantity and even in quality to my potential....though whatever was written was relevant to the question..and there was no question completely unattended....in paper2,I managed time much better..could finish paper 3-5 minutes before bell and was sitting idle...didn't want to start writing some new idea and be forced to leave it un-comleted due to answer sheet taken away....time management from begining, attending 1,5 compulsory 10 markers first(instead of last in paper 1) made the difference between the two papers......in hindsight I can tell that had I attempted that "what role has psychlogist in Skill India Mission" at end and not in beginning/middle....I couldn't have written it the way I did....all these little things make difference of as much as 25 marks in each paper..so 50 marks in both papers..that's the difference between 200 and 250...for well prepared both candidates....and then people say xyz optional is giving 250 while other optional uvw is giving only 200.
  • the peculiar thing about psychology optional is that one cannot get an above average score by only above average time/effort but one can get an average score even by below average time/effort...so there is some crucial time/effort that one use in GS/Essay.....and people like rank 68 something with only 170 combined paper1+2 can get that rank with only 170 combined optional marks..........then definitely psychology is a safe optional..provided it is smarty handled.
  • that rank 68 something above had geography optional by the way and not psychology.........I meant to draw an analogy.
  • any tips you would like to give to the people who are planning to appear in 2017?
Do not go gentle into that good night

  • one should finish core syallabus first and then keep refining/broadening/deeping it in both paper1 and paper2.....joining test series and discussions with seniors currently writing with psychology optional and getting good marks really helps a lot.....especially in paper2 where without right approach/strategy it is very difficult to score in paper2..even paper1 this year going 'analyse' and 'critically analyse' way.....anyone getting 200 or above means good score.....copy pasting same old stuff taught by so called psychology experts in coaching lanes is sure disaster.....they are not even reading newspapers with cursory intent....they will simply try to stuff whatever they know even in current affairs related question like "psychology in Skill India Mission".......that's where seniors help as they can give us a psychological orientation into these developing current affairs questions..not only directly but indirectly also I quotes such examples and issues in paper2....don't know how much will I get this time......by the way who all got 230 or more in psychology last time?I got 228 last year...last year any score close to 200 in psychology was good...the same for almost all optionals...it only takes a good or bad paper checker to make the difference between 200 and 230..otherwise..scores were concentrated around 200......and they seem to have gone after most difficult statistics part in psychology..every year they are continuously asking..though we got lucky this year as options could allow skipping most of the statistics part.
  • for last year previous year questions of psychology there are many 40 to 60 Rs. books papers compilation available in market.....the real challenge is finding answers to them..psychology is getting so open ended now that even if we are sure of what topics will come..what constitutes a good marks fetching answer need to be found out.....one good thing is that ki tension nhi hoti optional ki..unlike maths ki practice skip nhi kar sakte.....history..revise nhi kia tu bhul gye...socialogy.........lots of ratta and even poor marks given.....geography,public ad...pehle syallabus pura karna muskil for first attempt people then so many people with these optionals..ki normalization se marks butchered..pol sc me bhi same 'massive junta' appearing problem..and need to keep tracking even minute IR new developments.....psychology me ye acha hai......ek bar ache se pdh lia..samaj la.....very little need to revise..tension nhi hoti..baki current affairs to waise bhi study akr rhi hai..sabko pta hoga Skill India Mission,Swacch Bharat Abhiyan..bas psychological orientation to current affairs dena ana chaiye.

  • Writing this post to share the various unethical ways being adopted to fool innocent candidates specially the freshers who have just entered this 'game':The Games People Play

-First there are many who create fake ids, ghost marks, ghost toppers profiles and fool innocent candidates, sucking their precious hard earned money towards programs and courses that no body knows when one ends and another new one begins.Kindly don't fall for them.

-Second there are multiple ids by the same person,organization..some ids build/mobilize popularity, support to draw attention of candidates and fetch huge amounts of money from them.......the so called game of business and marketing..much needed ethics paper syllabus here......one id will enquire about xyz coaching..sir/madam/so called senior or expert teacher...other id will give fake reviews...other id will further build and mobilize support....doing name-dropping and critical information dropping of keywords..contacts etc..sub-liminal persuasion and influence at it's best!.......in reality all ids are related with the same person/organization/it's agents...innocent people kindly don't fall for such cheap tactics.

-Though some cost sharing people are genuine, many are fake, they simply disappear after taking your money.Kindly, before paying get to see a few mocks, sample material before paying..and then decide at your own risk...in any case,do not pay huge amount..any amount that hurts psychologically and financially big should not be paid. Some cost sharing prices are sensational as pointed out by mods.In my opinion, there are both fakes and genuine people involved.Genuine people are able to offer such cost sharing at very low prices because they might be over-selling/and/or not finding market to sell their product they have already bought alone by paying the full amount and are now desperate to recover whatever amount they can by selling at very low prices to whosoever they can.Trust and differentiate between the two at your own risk.

  • -then bogus people/organizations...what they'll do is that in some of their content publicly viewable they will pre-date them..the content seem to give direct factual and bang-on information on what was being asked in latest mains/prelims etc...many innocent aspirants either do not notice the date and even if they notice the date..fail to realise the pre-dating trick..the content was written after seeing mains/prelims papers..then predated to give the mirage as if they every thing came from their content/program/course....further there is 'spray and pray' technique..simply give so much diffused information...that it is impossible to study them...if anything even remotely or tangentially, indirectly comes...emphasize that aspects and highlight that........please be aware of such tactics.....
jago grahak jago!....differentiate between who is genuine and who is bogus...and the spread the word so that some ethics can be restored into the unfortunate and sad situation.....in my opinion,it's not bad to use techniques for marketing/business expansion/gaining popularity/advertisement etc..even someone's 'cheap trick' is someone else's 'good business acumen'...there is a very fine dividing line between ethical and unethical for me...the moment one begins to lie for personal profit, the line is crossed.........in my opinion. Thanks all, Brickbats are as welcome as roses,...brickbats would come even if I don't want them..so there is no point of welcoming or unwelcoming them:) And also I am no saint, beware of me too!:)There is no free dinner in this world.....and if it is free,it is not dinner:)...may the almighty keep mine and other's intentions noble and ethical.
  • Kindly spread the word in forumias and everywhere else, popular websites, facebook etc in public interest without any name, source, advertisement etc attached to it.....just the nameless content of this and information in public interest.I missed some other fake strategies adopted for misguiding innocent aspirants...please elaborate on them from your side and add to them.Paper4ofGS Ethics is never finished.:)
