Hi All, The reason for starting this thread is to understand the below from seniors and others who are experienced with this topic.
1) Utility of studying Economic Survey for Mains 2013 2) How to approach this mammoth fact-book? Specifically for Mains
I would request people to pour in their experience as I have the brand new book with me and thinking when and how to start.
Thanks, Dulali
Okay, Eco. survey can be a great help in case of mains. For topics like "welfare schemes for vulnerable sections" , "Issues relating to development and management of Social Sector/Services relating to Health,Education, Human Resources" etc. It will help you understand the current picture of such schemes and policies and gives a decent evaluation over a period of time.
What to read from economic survey? What to read from the Newspapers? What to read from a particular book?
Believe me, though, we do ask such questions but these questions have no "perfect" reply ! The general answers to these questions are "dont try to remember the facts", "try to get an overview of the chapters", "look at the syllabus and then concentrate on the text","look at the previous year question papers and then try to figure out the UPSC-relevant stuffs" and find a particular blog comparatively impressive as others !
After being with the UPSC preparation for about two months, I consider UPSC preparation like any game with, the blogs written by the toppers, like the "different distinguished players of the game". It is our inner instinct to get inspired from Mrunal/ Prince Dhawan or any teacher of any coaching.
After reading any thread of such kind, I simply smile to think about the conclusion that I get from it.
At the end, we decide "what to read" and "what to leave". )
I'd say if u have interest in economics, read selectively, chapterwise, as everyone else said. But if interest is a constraint then time is a casualty. :> So, go for : 1. Reading just the portion in the boxes in Eco Survey 2. Reading gist from mrunal.org
