How to choose History optional books ?

I recently read few chapters of EH Carr's" What is History ?"

I am a beginner with History optional.I gathered that facts can be interpreted differently and in the end the author's view factors in a lot.

So here is my question ? How to determine which author to read ? E.x for Modern History we have Sekhar Bandhopadhyay,Bipin Chandra, Sumit Sarkar.

Does one write answers keeping in mind all perspectives ?Or just sticking to one book and reproducing that perspective is enough?
