So, first up-- apologies for my absence for the longest period of time. Those who have been here for over a year might remember me, or maybe recollect a figment of yours truly, and to those who are newbies, I am a successful candidate of the CSE 2014. I am posted somewhere in a mofussil town in the Hindi heartland, and I'm writing this rather abstruse message because I know what exactly goes on in the minds of the
janta taking the exam next week.
I really want to deliver a 'Ye 70 minute..' kind of a Chak de! boost to all of you, but I am not one with great prowess with words. So, I shall stick to the basics. A few do's and dont's for this last week, maybe something that might work for you on the D-day. Just might.
A. Stop obsessing over 'what if..' There's no point, and end, to it. Focus on yourself and your preparation. Have faith, it takes you miles.
B. Don't randomly start reading new things. Time is up, just assimilate. If you are forgetting something you've read before, glance through it for 10 minutes and shut it there and then. Do *not* carry any baggage.
C. Drink plenty fluids, eat properly and sleep on time. Nothing boosts your performance like a healthy you!
D. Don't worry about the 18th chapter of the third book on Modern History that you didn't read. There are 99% chances that no question will be asked from it. And for the 1%, trust me when I say this, 99.99% of the people wouldn't have browsed through it either.
E. Read the questions carefully in the exam. Underline catch phrases like '.. not true' and the likes. An alert mind pushes your score up by almost 10%.
F. Don't doubt yourself. The mind works in mysterious ways. When you read a question and see the options, your mind prompts the right answer but you tend to question it. And in the process, the boss up there tells you to bugger off. So! If you think option C is the right answer, chances are, it is. Stick to it.
G. In the end, nothing is worth ruining your peace of mind over. Trust me, I say this having been on both sides of the curtain. Hence, be calm, be positive and trust yourself.

I wish each and everyone of you the best in the days to come. Even though I might not be here very often, but I'll always be around. Shine bright, and make the Forum proud!

Also, please drop the 'sir'.
I remember before my first prelims (26 May 2013), I was so nervous, I saw 4 movies on 25th, the previous day !! This time I'm hopeful to make it to the other side.
Out of the topic of this post:
Yesterday night was Saturday night and I've pledged myself at least one classic every Saturday night. Yesterday it was 'Memento' by Christopher Nolan. I discovered a whole new angle to the sub-plot which I didn't do before!
Natalie (Carrie Anne Moss) uses Leonard (Guy Pearce) to exact revenge on Teddy (the corrupt policeman). Afterall it was Teddy who got Natalie's boyfriend (Jimmy, the bar owner) killed by misusing Leonard's disability in first place. So it was obvious on her part to set up Teddy as John G. Most other explanations of this subplot revolve around the fact that Leonard sets up Teddy himself as shown towards the end of movie. But I say, Leonard would never have killed Teddy if Natalie wouldn't consciously set Teddy up for him (by providing copy of driver's license).
I'm really sorry that I went out of the topic of post but I was dying to get this opinion off my chest since last night. So if some Memento fan want to comment, he is most welcome... ForumIAS should really have dedicated corners for stuff like films, sports etc. like Reddit...
