@Orangutan Haha! Don't envy me, till I tell you which books I completed. Lol. I am an avid-reader and I have been reading Idea of India - Sunil Khilnani + Land of Seven Rivers - Sanjeev Sanyal. Though they are not a complete waste of time, they still are not really/directly useful for the exam. So!
At times, I become over optimistic. and My guess, cut off may not go up more than 230 in any case. range -220 to 230
My hypothesis :
1) Given the new pattern of Mains, many veterans who have exhausted their 2 or 3 attempts , would not have taken a risk to appear this time. And those people are the most serious lot. And according to some coaching institutes' claim this year attendance too was way low than before.
2) No doubt, 2nd paper was comparatively easier than last year, but that perception is because unlike last year there were LR and Maths questions were straight forward. Last year, there were more of deduction kind of questions, English + LR mixup. but This year paper -2 would be easier for aptitude friendly people like Eng, MBAs but not everyone. And there is sizable chunk of people who are not much adept about the same.
3) Here only, I got info, that this year because of IRS intake higher than usual, total seats would be up, which might pull down cut off .
4) Just inside voice, and my vested interest that it should be low.
Hope, it may calm the nerves of lesser mortals like me.
Reading is the second best thing after animals in my life. My non UPSC booklist is longer than my UPSC one. its been over a year since I have smelled a beautiful book by Khaled Hosseini or the latest Paulo Coelho... It kills me ... I still have to figure out which group I belong to... Fountainhead vs Atlas shrugged...!!! but I have no time to read any of them. On the contrary I am here all day long. IRONY
You are absolutely right @misfitmedico, my analysis is flawed if you consider these factors, also it might be quite possible that my friends are getting 60-70 in paper 1 because of their mba background and higher number of eco questions in paper 1, which might not be the case with everyone
